Outlook - Shuhei Taniguchi is oldest of the 2005 NOAH Dojo crew, however his extra years were filled with high-level amateur wrestling. Coming off a run in the Japanese Armed Forces, where he competed in the All Japan Championships. Comparisons to Tamon Honda and Takashi Sugiura are logical because both had prestigious amateur careers with the military before debuting as pro-wrestlers in their 30s. While Honda was in his 40s when he hit his peak, Sugiura is in the midst of his as one of NOAH’s best talents. Taniguchi’s credibility and potential to be a top star (he was the only heavyweight graduate) has given him some favorable opportunities to show his stuff. Like Honda and Sugiura, Taniguchi uses impressive suplexes, but bad knees and a lack of size do not hinder him. NOAH has struggled to get over new talent, but Taniguchi seems like too strong a prospect to botch in the next couple years. However, if he does not make it to the next level soon, being kept underneath may set his progress back.
