Outlook - Tough Enough 4 used a different approach to recruit talent and no one stood out more on their initial tryout than Marty Wright. A large, thickly muscled and undeniably charismatic person, Wright was cut for lying about his age. He was older than the cut off age, but they signed him anyways. Eventually, they transformed him into The Boogeyman. The WWF has had polarized results with supernatural characters. Some are hits like The Undertaker, Kane and even the Ultimate Warrior, but there have been busts like Gangrel, Papa Shango and Zeus. Although the extent to which those characters flopped varies, but the trend seems to be push these characters hard and put them in a top program. Some swim, some do not. The Boogeyman has limited in-ring ability and everyone knows that. So, OVW and the WWE have kept his role a limited act. He is not going to become another Undertaker, so they are not trying to make him that. Unfortunately, supernatural characters in the midcard seem to fizzle as their character will eventually get old. Wright's physical and mental problems have seen him disappear, which is probably the best thing for his character. The Boogeyman is a novelty act who has his gimmick down. He wears crazy makeup and costuming, he is missing his front teeth, he has good catchphrases and an even better laugh, he gyrates and goose-steps around, he wields a smoking staff, he eats worms and he definitely captures the attention of the audience. As long as he can keep his character fresh and they put him in the right angles, The Boogeyman may be a WWE staple for years to come.
