Outlook - Since "World of Sport" went off the air in the late 80s, pro-wrestling in the UK has been the WWE. There have been native products, but only on a small scale and there haven't been many to leave it for bigger things. While Doug Williams, Jodie Fleish and others have had some international success, it really does not compare to the stars of the late 70s and early 80s who became huge stars in Japan, Canada and the US. Paul Burchill came up through the ailing world of British wrestling. He was bigger than most, agile as many and had something special about him. He was pushed very hard in the FWA and was signed by the WWE. In OVW, Burchill developed himself and was soon brought up and paired with William Regal. The two made a formidable team with Burchill playing a sadistic heel. Then he briefly became a pirate before a knee injury sidelined him and ended the character. Upon his return, Burchill returned to his vicious heel persona in OVW. Upon his return to the WWE, Burchill was paired with British female talent Katie Lea as an overly affectionate brother-sister pair. Although this gimmick will make him stand out, it is not one that will aid Burchill's potential to be a top star. Burchill is a solid in-ring talent and Katie is a good talker and that combination could have worked without the incestuous undertones.
