Outlook - There have been a number of complimentary tag teams in recent times like the Hart Foundation and Harlem Heat that led to numerous odd couples with an athletic wrestler pairing with a brute. Ray Gordy, the son of the legendary Terry Gordy, has spent much of his career thus far in tag teams. Like his father, he has knack for working tags, but unlike his father he is always the smaller partner. The youngster has teamed with a variety of partners and played a variety of gimmicks. He played Henry Godwinn's cousin and the two were gearing up to come to the WWE when Ray was paired with someone else. That someone else was Drew Hankinson, an oversized stiff with an odd charisma. Hankinson had become a cult figure in Deep South as the Freakin' Deacon, but had looked terrible as an imposter Kane. The WWE paired the two and called them the Dalton Boys - Jesse (Gordy) and Festus (Hankinson). After being sent back down, Jesse and Festus came back in the summer of 2007 with hype. They played a pair of good ol' Southern boys, only Festus was a bit of a simpleton. Upon their debut, their gimmick became clear. When the bell rings to start the match, Festus transforms from a catatonic giant to an intense monster. After the match ends and the bell rings again, he transforms back. Although it seems like a stupid gimmick at first, it works very well and gets over strong. Meanwhile, Jesse plays an athletic babyface who can work the bulk of the match, sell for the heels, get in some hope spots and make the hot tag to the big man. Festus's participation is kept limited and he is able to do what he does best after the hot tag.
