Place in History - Dan Severn is known to many as one of the pioneering forces in the UFC, he was getting up there by that time. A few years prior to his UFC run, Severn was a notable star in the UWFi promotion in Japan. While another amateur turned pro, Gary Albright, garnered most of the attention, Severn was given quite a bit of room to show his stuff. Dan Severn did have some knowledge of pro-wrestling, so he had a nack for the shoot-style that he never really had for the more theatrical style of American pro-wrestling. It is surprised Severn never went further with it, but he got into shootfighting and became a larger star there. Although his tenure in the worked shoots was brief compared to some, Dan Severn had a lot of promise and could've been someone in that world had things played out a little differently.
