Houston Chapter sets anti-gun plan
Who is responsible for gun violence?
The Houston Chapter of
Texans Against Gun
Violence set their 1998
goals as. . .
1. Work with the Mayor
to implement a Houston
version of the Boston Plan
(see below), which has cut
teen deaths in that city to
zero,
2. Launch a litigation
project to encourage local
attorneys to bring suit
against irresponsible
manufacturers and sellers
of firearms,
3. Intensify our outreach
to the medical, religious,
domestic violence and
educational committees to
increase the activities and
resources to reduce gun
violence,
4. Do the groundwork for
next year's legislative
session (informing
members of candidates'
positions and votes,
strengthening relationships
with representatives, and
preparing proposed
legislation).
The Boston Plan is an
excellent gang prevention
program. See the article
Attacking Gangs, Not
Civil Rights by Tanya
Metaksa, Nov./Dec. 1997
American Rifleman or
American Hunter
magazines. The litigation
project translates to mean if
any firearm is used in a
crime, the manufacturer is
irresponsible and TABV is
lining up attorneys to bring
suit. It also means that
anyone who ever sold the
firearm that was used in a
crime, will also be brought
into the law suit.
The TAGV outreach
program is an attempt to
get more people from the
medical, religious, law
enforcement and
educational communities to
influence people for more
gun control.
The TSRA Legislative
Committee already knows
TAGV will reintroduce:
1. Legislation to close
down shooting ranges
through over regulation,
2. A bill to close down gun
shows and require you to
go through a firearms dealer
to lawfully give a firearm to
your adult children, and
3. Legislation to place more
restrictions on the
Concealed Handgun Law.
