The last DACA banquet was held in February

The last DACA Banquet of this century was held at the Anatole Hotel on February 27, 1999. This was not the last-ever Banquet, but the last of the 1900s.

The meal was quite good with roast beef and chicken as the main courses. During the pre-dinner social hour, members and guests frantically bid for items offered in a silent auction. Shuffling around to promote higher bidding was Joe Shaffer, our new vice president, who conducted the event.

Please see the list of donors listed elsewhere and thank them for their active participation. The D.A.C.A. thanks these members and gun show dealers who contributed to this charitable auction. The auction brought in $1,254.00.

After dinner, retiring President Frank Horak presented service awards to several people who worked hard during his term. He recognized:

·
  • Tom Plummer for his work as cochairman of the Safety Committee
  • Tom Watson, outgoing Director, for his work on the Board, and
  • Rod Wright for his successful efforts to have the NRA recognize the DACA as the Going Collecting Club of the Year.
Everyone held their breath and focused on their door prize tickets as numbers were drawn for a Browning shotgun, a .45 caliber single action and a Browning rifle. Members and guests wound down by listening to or dancing to the musical strains of Molly Gorgan and Dallas Unlimited.

Special thanks to everyone who made the banquet a success, especially:

·
  • Merrill Womack, making arrangements and MC,
  • Mary Kay and Joe Shaffer, managing the Silent Auction,
  • Rod Wright, obtaining items for the silent auction,
  • President Roland Taylor and Richard Shea, obtaining door prizes,
  • Patty Womack and Elvera Wright for greeting members and guests.
And, thanks to D.A.C.A. Officers and the Board of Directors for making the banquet possible.

Finally, thanks to the following who donated silent auction items:
