CENTER, YYAC RESOURCES PROMOTE NEW LIFE AT CHAMINADE | |
|
|
Under the leadership of Campus Minister Mike Thro, Chaminade College Prep in St. Louis is launching a pilot program this year designed to give Christian Life Community(CLC) a new look. Taking a cue from the Marianist LIFE Workshop, the "new" program is called"Marianist Life". The program's goal is to form small groups, communities, of students for the purpose of exposing them to Marianist life, spirituality, and charism. The strategies to be employed will be using the Sharing Faith modules designed by a writing team from the Center for Marianist Lay Communities & Lay Spirituality in conjunction with the Youth & Young Adult Council. Funding for Sharing Faith was made possible by a MAPS grant. Faith-sharing, and faith development through the study of the System of Virtues, prayer, social action, hospitality, and friendship will round out Marianist Life. The program is modeled after one already employed in the Miami area. This model allows small groups to meet regularly at times convenient for the respective small group, rather than the traditional method of having everyone meet together at the same time on a weekly basis. Marianist LIFE workshop participants are very excited about this approach and have begun recruiting members for their groups. Three groups are forming presently, with more to be formed after the first senior Kairos retreat at the end of October. In fact, additional groups will form after each of three Kairos retreats, and also after the two junior Emmaus retreats (December and April). It is hoped that this model, when fully implemented, will serve as a guide and resource for other Marianist schools and parishes in the St. Louis Province. YYAC members Bro. Jim Barrette, S.M. and Bob Schmidt are working with Mike Thro in the implementation of the Marianist Life program at Chaminade. Back to the Schools Page |
