SOD Father's Day Interview With Stuart Damon and Amber Tamblyn (And The Rest Of The Article)

The Name Of The Father: Alan Quartermaine.

Pop's Progeny: A.J. Quartermaine, Jason Morgan, Emily Bowen-Quartermaine, and Skye Chandler.

Family History: Though Alan has been married to Monica for nearly 20 years now, only one of his kids is by her -- eldest son A.J., who was born in 1979 (but later aged). Jason (who was also aged down the line) was conceived in 1981 during Alan's affair with Susan Moore. As for Emily, she was adopted by Alan and Monica in 1995 after her mother passed away. The latest addition to the list is Skye, the daughter he recently learned he had by long-ago love Rae Cummings.

Rating The 'Rent: ** 1/2 Daddy icon figures (out of 4).

Parent/Child Conference: Stuart Damon (Alan) and Amber Tamblyn (Emily)

Is Alan a good father?

Damon: "Alan was not a good father, but he is now. He never had time for his children, but I really think Alan is doing everything in his power to be a good, responsible, and loving father."

Tamblyn: "Yes, I think Alan is a very good father. His heart's in the right place."

Do you ever go to Stuart for advice?

Tamblyn: "All the time. Stuart's been with me through some of the hardest experiences I've [had] in the last seven years. He's like a second father."

Damon: "I am truly like her surrogate father. If there's a crisis or anything else, she'll call for me first. And I'm always there for her. I adore her."

Does Alan play favorites, and if so, who's the golden child?

Tamblyn: "I'm the golden child -- are you kidding me [laughs]? Alan plays favorites toward Emily because he helped her through some of the roughest times with her mother [dying] and everything."

Damon: "I definitely think it's Emily. Jason was, but there's just too much separation and distance on the relationship. Alan just cherishes Emily."

Is Emily a good daughter?

Tamblyn: "Yeah. I think she can be spoiled sometimes and bratty, but her intentions are good. She always has a firm reason why she acts the way she does."

Damon: "Emily is a free spirit. She can be a source of aggravation, but it hasn't stopped him from loving her."

What's your favorite part of Alan and Emily's relationship?

Damon: "I will never forget the times that we had when I comforted Emily using the voice of Sidney the bear. As soon as I would start, her eyes would light up."

Tamblyn: "Their ability to communicate, and the innocence she still has with him through Sidney the bear and all of that. She can always be a little girl with him."
