Lesson 4: Excel Spreadsheet Software--Creating a Pie chart or Bar Graph
Step 1: Set-up Spreadsheet
a) Click "edit", then "Header & Footer", add name & room number in left box
b) In Center box, type the question you were given in class (Questions listed below)
c) Close open windows by pressing "ok" & return to the spreadsheet
d) In column- A/ row - 1", type your topic keyword. For example, if your question is "What is your favorite color?", the keyword you would type, "Colors" in A1.
e) In column- A/ row- 2-7, type choices for your question. For example, if your question is "What is your favorite color?" , you would type: red, green, yellow, blue, purple, & other. You should have 5 choices and the word "other".
f) In column-B / row- 1, type "# of students in room 317" (use your own room number)
e) Save document as "apps", "students", "your room number", then in your folder.
Hint: Make your headings bold by clicking on the "1" to highlight the row, then look on the toolbar for the "B" button/icon. You can also change the font size.
Step 2 : Survey your classmates, record their choices & bring to class next week.
Step 3:
a) Open saved document.
b) Type in your data (number of students for each choice)
Step 4:
a) Highlight all data & headings by clicking in the first box and dragging you mouse to hightlight all information.
b) Click on the chart Wizard button/icon on the toolbar (It looks like a bargraph with a magic wand).
c) Chart Wizard- step 1 of 4
-Choose bar or pie chart, then press "NEXT"
d) Chart Wizard- Step 2 of 4
-Press "NEXT" ( be careful , not to delete the text in the range box)
e) Chart Wizard- Step 3 of 4
-Type in a chart title , it should be the survey question.
f) Chart Wizard- Step 4 of 4
-Press "NEXT", then "FINISH"
g) Move your chart under your data by clicking in the center of the chart and DRAGGING your chart.
h) SAVE your data onto the network.
