West Ham manager Glenn Roeder, who hopes to sign Lee Bowyer
in time for Saturday's match against Newcastle United at Upton
Park, has not restricted his transfer activities to recruiting
the Leeds midfielder.
Roeder has also brought in 28-year-old South African Cyril Nzama
on trial and released two other players.
Trinidad and Tobago international Brent Rahim, who has been on
loan from Bulgarian club Levski Sofia for six months, has joined
Luton after being released, and fellow midfielder Leon Britton
has been allowed to extend his loan at Swansea until the end of
the season when his contract runs out. Britton will then become
a free agent.
Nzama, a centre-half from Kaiser Chiefs, has already impressed
Roeder with his enthusiasm, stepping off a flight at Heathrow at
7.30am and reporting for training at Chadwell Heath three hours
later.
``That is someone who is hungry,'' Roeder told West Ham's
official website, whufc.co.uk: ``Cyril has come over from South
Africa and his people have paid for the trip, so it was a free
look for us. He seems a very decent man and has impressed us
with his mentality. But we are only having a look, and one that
guarantees no promises to the lad.''
Roeder expects to have Scottish international midfielder Don
Hutchison, recently back from cruciate ligament surgery,
available for the Newcastle game following the death of his
father, whose funeral took place on Monday. |
