Chelsea midfielder Mario Stanic is awaiting the results of a
scan on his knee to determine if he can play against Charlton
this weekend.
Stanic twisted his knee during last weekend's FA Cup third round
win against Middlesbrough at Stamford Bridge, in which he scored
the winner.
He was forced to miss training yesterday to undergo a scan and
must be assessed further in the build-up to Saturday's home game
against Alan Curbishley's side.
That goal against Boro nevertheless took Stanic's tally to the
season to four, with the midfielder admitting that not only did
it boost Chelsea's confidence levels but also his own.
He told Chelsea TV: ``It was an important victory for us as we
had lost to Leeds and Arsenal and so we had lost a bit of
confidence.
``Everyone can be happy now though as we played fantastic. I
normally score seven or eight goals a season and that is one of
the reasons Chelsea bought me.
``I went a long time without scoring but now I have taken
confidence and can be dangerous to the opponents. This is great
for me that I'm getting chances now and I'm scoring.''
Parent company Chelsea Village, meanwhile, today announced moves
to sell an estimated 15% of the club to mystery investors, which
could raise up to #10million.
In a statement to the Stock Exchange, Chelsea Village said they
were in negotiations with a number of parties ``with a view to
issuing either all or a substantial proportion of their unissued
share capital''.
At an annual general meeting on December 13, the company got the
go-ahead to issue 30 million shares and the statement said that
the shares would be sold at a ``price representing a significant
premium to the current market price''. |
