Outsider

The quiet boy in the back of the class,
Too shy to connect with the other kids,

Becomes the quiet man unable to
Connect with the other adults.

Instead, he becomes an observer,
Making mental notes of people's
Behavior and interactions.

Forever an outsider, feeling like
An alien amidst the Earthlings,

The simplest forms of human contact
That come naturally to most

Are to him like learning an indecipherable
Foreign language where the words
Are nothing but nonsense.

A self-imposed prison of isolation
Becomes a way of life,

As his feelings of disconnection
Grow

He finds solace in his imagination
And develops characters that live
And breathe within his mind.

His powers of observation develop
Fictional entities and worlds that
Do not exist.

Except within the world that he has
Created.

The greatest irony is that the
Outsider is actually an
Insider --

For only he knows the secrets that
Live within his mind.
