Sleepless - A Dream

  I lie awake,
  Watching the sheets
  Rise and fall

  As you breathe.

  Awakened by inspiration
  Divine or
  Otherwise

  I sit and silently
  Write

  The wrongs of
  Sleeplessness

  Insomnia just another
  Virus

  To ail the body

  And trouble the mind.

  An unforgiving
  Master

  An ever-thirsty
  Mistress

  An insatiable
  Desire

  Words whisper
  Through my brain

  Easing some of the
  Pain, but never
  All.

  As the pen flows
  Down the
  Page,

  Some of the
  Rage goes with
  It

  But never all.

  Reality returns
  As the wisps
  Of the
  Dream

  Disappear

  Everyday tedium,
  The Grind,

  In my mind

  Playing havoc
  With my world

  A head in the
  Clouds

  Looking down
  At the sullen
  Masks of
  Despair below

  Few truly
  Know the
  Wonder

  Few ever
  See beyond.

  Beyond the
  Cast-iron
  Walls

  And the
  Silicon Hells

  Of everyday
  Life.

  Blind to
  Themselves

  Cheating
  Themselves

  As they inch
  Forward towards
  Dead End

  The Death of
  Their worthless
  Spirit

  And their
  Plasticene souls

  They will never
  Know true
  Beauty.

  They will never
  Know true
  Hope.

  Reality killed
  What little
  Magic

  And what little
  Wonder

  That (lived)
  In their
  Sterile World.
