IT'S LOVE THAT TRULY GIVES

I just couldn't believe my eyes. I thought Sara finally had enough and had written the Windsor Star to let everyone know about my ability to give her the perfect gift. There it was, all these letters from frustrated wives whose husbands just didn't get it concerning Christmas.
Everything from mousetraps to Godzilla slippers have been the 'brainchild' of so many husbands believing to give their wives the 'perfect' gift!

While we may not agree with their choices (I must admit, before I saw Sara's reaction to the article I didn't think the slippers were that bad) at least the men understood the concept of Christmas time.
Like many of you, Christmas is my favourite time of the year. It's a time that we can act our shoe size and not our age and get away with it. To just see the excitement of children and the joyous mood in others makes the holidays a wonderful time to be up and around. Just to have a time when we can give something to all those people who really mean a lot to us. I am convinced that there is only one thing that could possibly make giving to others special to us: LOVE.

I guess that why the time to exchange gifts with loved ones is tied with the extra attention the world gives to Jesus' entrance into our world (John 3:16) is tied. When Jesus came to the world causing angels to burst out in song, yet destined to die on a tree and be crowned as the Universe's One and Greatest King, God was showing the world what love is all about.
Love to be love must give.
She does not just look at the cost.
She doesn't seek what's best for self, but she truly gives.
Love cannot begrudge her sacrifice, nor can she seek to 'take back' what she gave.
Instead love finds its fulfillment in giving!

This is one of the things that the gift of Jesus taught us:
God so loved us that what He gave to us was wholly for our own benefit. He does not regret giving Jesus to us, He will never want to take it back, and He just wants to remind us how loved we really are.

"And the angel said to them, 'Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of a great joy which shall be for all the people; for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in cloths, and lying in a manger.' And suddenly there appeared with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying 'Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased.'" -Luke 2:10-14

P.S. - for the husbands out there, if you love your wife, scratch the mousetrap off your list and give her something she would love!
