Who Is Responsible?
WEST SIDE'S BUMP FOR THE MONTH
-January 2002
New York City officially has a new mayor after mayor Giuliani
swore in Mayor Bloomberg following the crystal ball's drop bringing in
the New Year!
There is no question that the way the mayor has conducted himself over
the past few months made his popularity at his 'retirement' extremely
high.
In an interview shortly before he was to give up his position as
top dog of New York he was asked something in regard to his motto for
working the past eight years. The mayor replied that on his desk was a
sign that read, "I'm responsible".
What a difference 2002 can be for all of us if we were to take on
this same motto. Just think if instead of looking to blame people for
the reasons we act the way we do we simply see the truth that we are
responsible for our own actions and reactions?
Or, when seeing works that need to be done we don't just sit and
complain about why it's not being done but see it as our responsibility
to help it get done?
"I'm responsible".
Isn't that a great theme for a church made up of individuals who love
Jesus to live by?
What a difference it could make to our homes if each member of the
family shared the responsibility for it's functioning.
What a difference to the community if the members of God's church felt
some responsibility to it.
What a difference in the family of God if each part does its share
(Ephesians 4:16) without grumbling or complaining (Philippians 2:14).
When I think of all the times I have been tempted (and too often
fell for it) to simply pass the responsibility of my failure to act
like Jesus on someone else I am deeply sorry.
I pray that in this coming year we will take the attitude of our
Saviour and recognize our own responsibility to fulfilling the will of
God!--Drew Chapados
