He is My Everything

Text: John 6:66-69

It is again a pleasure to be before you this morning to bring you a message of hope that is found in Jesus Christ the risen Son of God. The title of this morning's lesson is "He is my everything" and indeed as we have come to know God the Father and His Son Jesus Christ we do believe that Jesus is our everything.
Before we begin this lesson though I would like to read a few portions of scripture:
John 6:66-69, Ephesians 2:1-10, Romans 3:9-23.

Let's go back then to John 6:66-69 for a few moments.
Imagine being one of the twelve with Jesus here and let's notice some things that have gone on. -many have left!
He now asks you will you go?
How can we go?
Without you we have nothing -- you are our everything!!!

Millions have echoed that sentiment throughout the ages and we today still firmly live in that same belief.
I can tell you without a doubt this morning that Jesus is my everything. I don't know where I would be this morning if I didn't have Jesus, but I know for sure I would not be here. Perhaps I would be waking up with a hangover, perhaps living out wild days, I don't know, but it's Jesus who has changed everything for me!
If each of us were to be asked what is Jesus to you? We might give many different but true answers and perhaps not think of it at first but once hearing it probably with one assent would say "Yes, he is my everything".
Why? I realize there are a lot of reasons but let me give you three (With all that man can do):
  1. Man can't by himself "start over".
I know that we can decide by ourselves to live differently, but each of us brings with our names a lot of baggage that no matter what you do you can't get rid of. Look at 2 Cor.5:17- if you are in Christ, you are a new creature!
Look at Eph.2:1-10 again- vs.1- you were dead. Vs.4- but God. Vs.5- made us alive. Vs.6- in the heavenly places. Vs.8- by grace. Vs.8- through faith. Vs.10- in Christ Jesus.
"We were dead but God made us alive in the heavenly places by grace through faith in Christ Jesus ." You look at the gospels and look what Jesus did for people, prostitutes, beggars, tax collectors and so on. Look at the example of Matthew 9:9-13. They went from being what they did , to being known for whom they had found!
Today, "that divorcee", "that alcoholic", "that drug addict", "that liar", "He's a homosexual" etc. When I stand on high and "Drew Chapados" is called to the front and the question is asked "Can anybody associate sins with this man?" Many can come forward, but my everything will stand and say He is a new creature. Although my official documents still say Andrew Chapados, my passport to heaven says "Christian."
  2. He can't give himself adequate hope!
Romans 8:24,25 - when man lives without Jesus, he has no hope for the future, the present and more important beyond death. But with Jesus Christ, man finds a hope that is more than mere wish , but concrete. Hebrews 6:18,19, 11:1.
Look at the case of Zaccheus in Luke 19:1-10. Jesus still takes people whose outlook is bleak, whose hope in this life is dwindling and changes them into people of great hope.
  3. He can't save himself.
Romans 3:9,10,23 - you can't save yourself. John 8:34,35. There is coming a day when all will stand before God on high and there will be two groups, those who are saved by Christ and those who are unsaved. The people who are part of the saved are not those who have done better, are not those who have tried, it will be those who have come to trust in the saving power of Jesus Christ! Titus 3:11- grace has appeared to all men. That appearance is in the form of Jesus Christ and his death on the cross.
What would you do if you found out that another child died saving your child's life?
What would you do if you found out the other child's father sent him to save it?
What would you do if you found out it was not a knee-jerk reaction?
How would you preserve the boy's legacy?
Yet, that is exactly what God did in Jesus Christ:
He Is My Everything:

What does He mean to you?
How do you accept the free gift of God?
Believe on Him - John 8:24
Repent - Luke 13:3
Be Baptized for the remission of sins - Acts 2:38

I ask you, what is Jesus to you?
