2003 Stats

NBA Comparisons:

Optimistic Outlook: A healthy Todd MacCulloch
Pessimistic Outlook: Mengke Bateer

Strengths – A strong, physical, bruising inside player. Tang is a true center who plays in the paint. He has an absolutely huge frame and is very strong. Can simply overpower smaller opponents, and shows a soft touch around the basket. Good free throw shooter and can hit the mid range jumper. He is also a good rebounder who uses his size well. Has the size and strength top defend almost anyone in the post.

Weaknesses – No speed or quickness at all. He has no explosiveness, and struggles to dunk in traffic. Not fast running the floor and can lag behind on fast breaks. Vertical leap is around 20 inches. Not as quick or athletic as Chinese counterparts Yi Jianlian and Mo Ke. Doesn’t have good footwork to go around defenders, but is improving. Has to protect the ball better in the post, he can easily lose the ball and get it stolen. Will struggle to defend quicker players who face up to the basket.
