The Performance Team includes 2 Safety Technicians, whose job it is to guard  a 30' diameter Safety Zone and watch for any unsafe situations.  To assist them in defining the safety zone, 2 bike flags set in concrete are attached with metal chains to the Fire Effects Artillery Art Piece. The Safety Technicians have the authority to terminate the performance should they observe anything unsafe.  The Safety Technicians are trained in the operation of the Flame Artillery Art Piece, as well as First Aid (with emphasis on burn treatment).

The Operator's job is to safely operate the Flame Effects Artillery Piece. This includes ensuring that only Approved Performers are within the perimeter, and that no one is in front of the Flame Cannon within the reach of the flame (appx. 10 feet). The Operator has clear, unobstructed vision in a 360 degree arc. The controls and shut-off valves are all within reach of the Operator. The Operator is also trained in First Aid, with an emphasis on burn treatment.

All Performers wear Fire Retardant clothing, and are trained in the safe operation of the Flame Effects Artillery Piece.
