RUTH

"HOLE SNIFFER"

Hole-sniffer was born to a Siberian Husky breeder.  The fact that the breeding mother was half wolf only enhanced the pup's value, generally.  Her mother had to constantly pull the puppy out of things she got into because of
the puppy's excessive curiousity.  So she named her Hole-sniffer.

Hole sniffer was bought for $200 by a family who wanted a pet for their active children.  They named her Ruth, from the bible, for her gentle, intelligent eyes.  Ruth/Hole sniffer was a pretty dog with blue eyes, black,
grey and white husky markings, and an engaging doggie smile.  One of the things that differed from other huskies was that Ruth/Hole sniffer's tail curled up when she was happy, but drooped down like a wolf's when she was not.

Ruth/Hole sniffer was trained to be a well-behaved dog and was often taken on walks in a nearby park.  One of the older teenage girls was walking her when an older ex-boyfriend of hers drove by.  Stopping the car, he tried to
talk to the girl.  Because he was drunk, she ignored him and kept going. When he grabbed the girl and shook her, she began to cry out.  Ruth/Hole sniffer snarled and leaped on him.  Still drunkenly belligerent, the boy hit
the dog in the nose.  Pain ignited rage, and Ruth/Hole sniffer mauled him.

Unfortunately, the law was clear.  The dog had to be put to sleep.  But to make a little money, the dangerous animals were sold to a research facility that bought animals for testing.  Ruth/Hole sniffer was injected with things that made her sick.  Though still a mild, obedient dog, she felt sick enough one day to bite her handler.  She was beaten and shocked electrically.

The group of Garou and Kinfolk who came to trash the facility and free the animals would've let her go, anyway.  But when they heard her whining and pleading for Lassie to rescue her, just like on the TV, they carried her back
with them.

One of the rescuing Garou took her under her wing.  Lacey Daven 'Falls On Feet' was an older Child of Gaia, an aging but sexually active hippie.  For the most part, Hole sniffer stayed in her trailer while learning to speak
English and act like a human.    It was easier for her than most lupus, because of her previous experience with humans.  But learning to live in the wild as a wolf was more difficult.  Because of her dog blood, true-blooded
lupus didn't want her in their packs.

Hole sniffer's human form looks tall, skinny and flat-chested.  But her face is pretty, with fair skin and very black, waist-length feathery hair.  Her eyes are light blue with dark rings in the iris.  They are usually gentle
and friendly, but penetrating.  Lacey was the one who told she might need a human name.  Ruth was what Hole sniffer was used to, and it was human enough. Her human coverings were chosen by Lacey, but Ruth/Hole sniffer is very fond
of the flannel.  Less so the denim, which seems too tight most of the time. Ruth/Hole sniffer was used to a collar and kept a chain collar to attach little things onto.  She's very fond of it but it jingles and gives away her
sneaking.  Because Theurges have to use tools sometimes, Lacey gave her a medicine bag leather necklace, long enough to fit around even a Crinos' neck. So far, Ruth/Hole sniffer only has a compact mirror in it, for Stepping
Sideways.

Once on a lonely night, Ruth/Hole sniffer went as a human and found her old family.  She found that they had gotten a new dog, a St. Bernard.  Finding him a good, gentle watchdog, she left and kept looking.  It took some time to find her mother.  After hopping the fence, Ruth/Hole sniffer communed with her mother, but found little understanding.  Her mother was just a dog, and was frightened by her shapeshifting from human to dog.  The rest of her new litter cowered and yipped in fear.  But Ruth/Hole sniffer noticed that one just sat and looked at her curiously.  Too lonely to face life alone,
Ruth/Hole sniffer took her brother with her when she left.  His mother had named him Bright Eyes.

Hole sniffer's Rite of Passage took place in the wilderness, because she had less exerience there.  She was supposed to track down and heal a maddened black bear.  She followed it's blood trail, from where a hunter had wounded
it.  Her wilderness stealth wasn't good enough to keep the bear from smelling her and charging.  He wasn't interested in talking.  She tried to use her Crinos form to pound him into unconsciousness.  But she only seemed to hurt
him; the bear just kept taking the hits.  She had to run away before he angered her.  Hole sniffer remembered the pain and loss killing the human boy had brought.  The bear pursued her, so she had to keep going.  Desperate, she
remembered her TV.  So she dug a bearpit and laid in ambush.  When the bear followed her trail in, she dumped a log on top of him.  While the bear was mostly immobilized, she leapt down on him.  Clutching his back, she called on
the spirits of healing until he was well.  She pushed the log aside and used his back to jump out.  Then she shifted to Crinos and pulled the bear out. She was bitten for her trouble and ran away again.  But the bear was tired
and no longer crazy with pain; he gave up after a few miles.  Hole sniffer tiredly searched for a road.  Then she hitchhiked in human form home.
