Circassians

 
In the 19-th century Circassians had suffered a national tragedy. After the Russia-Caucasian War people practically were deprived of their Motherland. As a result they were dispersed all over the world. The descendants of Circassians-Mukhadjirs live now in 56 countries.



 
 
 
   
1552   Muscovy (Russia) continued to wage wars and to expand. Ivan defeated and annexed the Kazan' Khanate on the middle Volga in 1552 and later the Astrakhan' Khanate, where the Volga meets the Caspian Sea. These victories gave Muscovy access to the entire Volga River & to the northern Caucasus
1554   Russia occupied Astrakhan city.
1557   Kabarday requested Russia to support it against Tattar and Turkey.
1558   Kabarday & Russia fought together against Tatter.
1561   Ivan Grozni married Mariya (the daughter of the Kabardinian prince Temruk).
1563   With the agreement of Prince Temruk, Russia built the first fortress in Terek in Kabarday.
1604   Russia sent 10000 soldiers to the Northern Caucasus.
1696   Russia controlled the Azof  sea.
1711   Kabardinians & Russians fought together against the Crimean army & Western Circassians (Cherkessia), but they were defeated.
1712   Cassocks migrated to the left side of r. Terek.
1720   40000 Crimean army & Western Circassians attacked Kabarday, after a heavy battle, Kabardinians left their land & went to the mountains.
1723   Russia controlled the western & the southern coasts of the Caspian Sea.
1739   Ottomans Empire defeated Russia, Russia left Kabarday.
1771   Russia occupied a strategic land in Crime, Ottomans Empire left Kabarday.
1778   Kabardinians expressed their disagreement to migration of Cassocks to their lands.
1780   Russia built Stavrapol, to be their main base for military operations.
1792   Yektrina II sent the Cassocks people to the territory between r. Cuban and the coast of the Black Sea, they called this territory Cherna-Mori.
1796   The Russian Empire & the Cassocks army began interfering in the internal matters of the western Circassians (Cherkessia).
1798   Russia removed the main base from Stavrapol to Pitigorsk.
1811   Western Circassians attacked Yekatirindar (Krosnodar) – the capital of Cherna-Mori.
1818   Russians built Grozni fortress and Nalchik fortress.
1820   Russians & Cassocks started destroyed the western Circassians villages, killing all people, including the elderly people, women & children.
1830   Russia increased the number of its forces and it began working against the native people severely. Western Circassians went on fighting bravely, although the 2 fighting sides weren’t equal at all.
1834   England promised Western Circassians to help them, but it did not, the enemy continued destroying and burning the Circassians villages, and stealing everything.
1840   Circassians destroyed the Russian Fortresses.
1841   As Circassians kept struggling, not to be under the Russian control, Russians sent a huge army. Many bloody massacres took place, many of Circassians Wbikhh were killed.
1856   The Treaty of Paris, signed at the end of the Crimean War, gave Russia a full control on Cherkessia. Following the Crimean War, the regime revived its expansionist policies. Russian troops first moved to gain control of the Caucasus region, where the revolts of Muslim tribesmen--Chechens, Cherkess, and Dagestanis--had continued despite numerous Russian campaigns in the nineteenth century.
1857   A bloody battle took place near the mountain Abadzih, Circassians step by step left their positions, Russians forced the people who stayed alive to leave their homes, to the coast of the Black Sea then to Ottomans Empire. Cassocks & Russians took the occupied land, and started live there. Circassians attacked every Russian military group. Russia built Maykop fortress in Cherkessia.
1859   The forces of Aleksandr Baryatinskiy had captured the legendary Chechen rebel leader Shamil.
1861   Western Circassians established a committee (Majlis) to organize the defense operations. They call to Holy War, At this time there were three huge armies surrounding them.
1862   The Russian government ordered to migrate the western Circassians, and to be replaced by Cassocks.
1863   In Cherkessia there were 14 armies. The resistance of the Circassian Shabsugh & Abadza was broken. Most of the Circassian Wbikhh were killed.
1864   Russia got Abkhazia under control. May 21, Russia celebrated the victory, at last, they succeeded occupy the Western Caucasus. Circassians were forced to leave their land, Russian fleet has sunk the ships on which were forwarded Circassians, most of them died on the way to Turkey. Only 60000 stayed in Cherkessia.
