YOU GAVE NEW LIFE TO ME
Like the caterpillar, I would crawl
along life's tree, with branches tall,
inching my way to what would be
my final days, my destiny.
Instinctively, I'd spend the day
tasting life and love along the way.
I dreaded what was coming soon,
confinement in my dark cocoon.
I'd anchor firmly to a branch,
in silken fibers, I'd entrench.
I was both solid and secure,
but loneliness I did endure.
Like the summer breeze, you came.
I knew I'd never be the same.
You gently touched me with your hand,
my metamorphosis began.
I fought and struggled to break free
of binding threads that repressed me.
You saved me from my certain death,
reviving me with your soft breath.
I was the butterfly, that's sure.
The wind beneath my wings, you were.
You carried me to heights unknown
to those who live by bread alone.
Through fields of passion, we would race,
and then we'd dance in an embrace.
We loved as none had loved before,
yet, our hunger called for more.
We knew this fervor would not last
and vanish in a wintry blast.
Yet, still we dreamt that our endeavor
would never fade, but last forever.
