Hey Hound. First of all let us all know why you decided to create Corpse Gristle Records?

One reason, to promote the Texas Death Metal Scene.

Now I know when you first began your work in the underground, you were known an In-Cess Productions. Where did you come up with the name In-Cess, and also why did you decide to change it to Corpse Gristle?

In-Cess was just another way of saying "in-sickness", as in cesspool; a pool of liquid waste. Plus it sounds just like incest, so it was also like a play on words. After i started In-Cess i decided to start a zine with some friends of mine and we came up with the name Corpse Gristle for the zine. After a while the label started and i just switched the name of everything to Corpse Gristle.

When Corpse gristle was first started, you also had a zine by the same name. When creating your zine, what were your goals you were going for at the time?

Just to get coverage for only the sickest, most brutal bands. At the time there was no other zine doing that, Headfucker and Extremities were already finished.

You released 2 great issues, but since have stopped the zine. Why did you choose to end the zine? Wasn't issue #3 alsready being worked on?

Issue #3 was nearly done, but i had so many problems, monetary and time wise that i had to call it quits.

The label, I feel has a very respecatble following around the world in our underground. Do you agree to this? And how did you get this label to be such a success all by yourself?

I think the thing that really helped the label is that i only release TXDM, this brought a lot of attention to the scene in TX in general. And it doesn't hurt that i have some of the heaviest, sickest, most brutal bands in the world on the label.

Recently you have decided to end the distribution part of the label. Do you feel this will dissapoint some fans, an dmake some think that the label is folding? Also, why have you decided to make such a big decision?

It's already disappointed many fans, but i haven't heard of anyone thinking that i'm folding. The reason i stopped the distro was to concentrate on the corpse gristle releases. I want to be able to sell the releases for what they are instead of trading them to get them out there. I'd like to be able to say how many copies of a release are "sold", instead of how many have been "distributed". Also I now will start to pay the bands actual royalties paid in $ instead of a percentage of the copies pressed.

Is it true that you will always only sign Texas bands? What will happen when there are no new TX bands to sign? How often do you dign new acts to your label?

Hell yeah, Corpse Gristle is for TX bands only, that will never change. When (if) there are no more TX bands then i guess i won't release anything else! Haha! Well now i'm not looking to sign any more bands, have a roster of 7 bands; DEVOURMENT, PROPHECY, VIRAL LOAD, SINTURY, INFERNAL DOMINION, PUTRILAGE, and INSIDIOUS DECREPANCY. There are a lot of other killer bands in TX though such as CONDEMNED, DETRIMENTAL, POGROMY, DEMON SEED, MORTIFIX, TORMENT DEFINED, me-at-us, and others.

What is it you look for in a band to be on your label?

That's simple.

1. sickness

2. brutality

3. reside in TX

Can you give your opinion and brief description of each band on your label for all the viewers?

DEVOURMENT, i consider them to be the heaviest, sickest, most brutal band out, period.

PROPHECY, killer straight up death metal, kinda like DYING FETUS without all the frilly shit , but definitely not a copy.

SINTURY, just raw-ass primal brutality and heaviness.

VIRAL LOAD, the riff machine, catchiness and groove to no end, and unique vocals.

INFERNAL DOMINION, evil as fuck heavy shit that makes christians run.

PUTRILAGE, straight for the throat sickness, slightly old school death metal.

INSIDIOUS DECREPANCY, fast, ultra-technical, machinelike death metal with killer vox.

What will the year 2001 bring forth from Corpse Gristle?

New releases from VIRAL LOAD, INFERNAL DOMINION, PUTRILAGE, PROPHECY, DEVOURMENT, INSIDIOUS DECREPANCY, and SINTURY. Also a European license for these releases should be in effect also, i'm in negotiations with several labels overseas.

Thanks Hound for taking the time to do this interview. Any final comments?

I'm a man of few words, so i just want to say thanks and support TXDM. Don't fuckin' mess with TEXAS!
