From the look of your bio page on your site, you don't like to give a history of the band, so I will not ask that. Instead, just introduce yourself and the rest of your band mates to my viewers!
We are 4 guys totally devoted to the music we like. David (guitar & backing vocals), Yannick (drums), Christophe (vocals) and me (bass) are playing together for more than 6 years now under the same line up trying to reach the most brutal form of music. I didn’t want to do a bio, but it really looks like one... So, we released 2 demos and 3 CD until now !!! All this shit was and will be self produced because we believe as hell in what we do and don’t wanna be perverted by someone else !

This band has been around since 1990. Congratulations on the 10+ years career so far. How do you think the band has progressed since its creation, and also what about the scene around you?
Oh yes we really progressed from the beginning until now !! In that time, we didn’t know what the underground was... We were only knowing the scene through what we could read in magazines : OBITUARY, SLAYER, PESTILENCE, CANNIBAL CORPSE, etc... So, we had to do a step further and dive into that fucking underworld where everybody can express itself ! And the best way we progressed was in our “philosophy” : trying to stay underground as long as we will be able to, no selling our soul to anyone and absolutely not following the trends !!! That was the best thing we could do I think. About the scene, we saw many bands appearing and many bands dying around us, but we also saw many bands becoming a bit known and having shit attitude... Too many bands don’t want to answer their mail because they think they don’t need to do it and this only because they did one CD or have been signed on a label... I do fucking hate this shit attitude... If the underground scene exists, it’s to fight this kind of stupid ideas... The biggest problem in the scene is that those who stay usually become trends...

My first encounter with INHUMATE was back in '95 with the Grind your Soul demo. Do you ever still listen to any of your old demo tapes? Are people still in the lookout for copies that you know of?
To be honest it’s many months that I didn’t listen to our demos and the 2 first albums... I don’t often listen to our stuff. We play it enough, I do know the tracks enough to not feel the need to listen to them home again... I didn’t know that we already had an American audience in 1995, that’s really great I think !!! Maybe are we more well known than what I thought... About the last part of your question, I’m really sorry but I don’t understand what you mean with people looking for copies... (I meant, do you know of any people out there who are still asking to buy copies of the old demos -ed)

You have played a number of great shows including shows with bands I listen to like Aborted, Sanity's Dawn, Intervalle Bizarre, Godless Truth, Dementor, Cryptopsy, Vader, etc... How has all of these other bands treated INHUMATE at shows? And if you can remember, is there one incident that really sticks in your mind from a previous show?
We usually had good contact with the band we played with. And especially ABORTED (we played 2 times with them I think... and they’re all great and cool guys !!!!), INTERVALLE BIZARRE too !!! We will play 3 dates with them and another Czech band : ALIENATION MENTAL in February and I can’t wait for that moment !!! Those bands are really honest and true underground supporters !!! About SANITY’S DAWN we played one time together and had a cool discussing and drinking night. We played on the same festival with GODLESS TRUTH (unfortunately we couldn’t talk together...) and DEMENTOR (They looked like a bit too proud of themselves I think... We didn’t discuss, but I think they didn’t want to...). CRYPTOPSY are cool guys but slowly getting out of the underground, getting to proud of themselves, what I can understand after having seen them live !!! And VADER are also cool guys especially Peter !!! Sorry but we never had any incident during a gig... We always had normal relation with other bands. You know, if you try to stay what you are and try to show to other people that your band is the best of the world, then there’s no problem at all...

Your fist show listed on the site was back in '93. Have you seen a change in the crowds since the beginning? And what about the band's stage presence, has it changed as well?
Ah, ah, ah !!! Yes things really changed ! When I watch videos from those shows it’s really funny. We are headbanging with our short hairs, making a lot of stupid mistakes, being fucking afraid of the crowd. And in the crowd there are almost only friends of us, standing just watching us. Nowadays, when we play we try to get in what we call the “stage trance”. It means that we give to people all we got in our guts, we try to give the most extreme and brutal show we can give. It’s fucking hard and we can’t play more than 45 / 50 minutes. Usually the response of the crowd is good, people seem to enjoy that kind of attitude and make a mosh pit. And when people don’t get crazy, then we try to understand what we did wrong... And the most strange thing is that you can feel a particular way to act at underground gigs. People in Holland stay very calm, don’t move that much... In France it seems to me that people begin to catch slowly the feeling of the extreme because there are always more people getting crazy and that’s fucking great and the only way to feel absolute musical brutality I think. When I go at a gig I don’t wanna see some statues playing what I could hear at home... The stage attitude must be different I think !

Your latest CD is entitled, "Growth", and I think it is a great CD. Is there a meaning behind the name of the CD for INHUMATE?
Yes, of course there is something ! There’s a very important thing : our concept. So, now I’m gonna explain it to you : we try to do a whole concept with our CDs. This concept will be made with 7 albums and we call it an heptalogy. Those 7 albums will be 7 steps of a human life and will try to show that life never ends, so if life never ends then there is no time left and we arrive at what we call the abolition of time. Some people gonna tell me that life ends when a guy dies, and to this I answer that in the normal way of life all person should give birth to a child, in that case life goes on through the child, ok ? So when the parents gonna die, life won’t end because the child will carry it. And when that child will die  (in a normal age I mean) it should have been the same, that child, when he’ll be an adult, he should have given life to his own child… So, when the try to understand what life is for the all humanity, you can’t understand when it begins and when it will end, can you ? And time cannot be counted into a so wide moment, is there then a real time ? Can’t it be abolished ? I think that yes, because he human brain isn’t strong enough to understand all those things. So, that was for the whole concept. And we try to put this, to explain this through our cover artworks (and a little bit through the lyrics). Our first CD “Internal Life” was dealing with the life before life, the life inside the mother. The second one, “Ex-Pulsion”, which means the moment of birth in French, is about that time. When you got the whole complete CD, you can see the pictures of that moment, maybe the biggest traumatism that all human people has to feel in it’s life. Our last one, called “Growth” tries to deal with all the young years, the teen ages years. More precisely the moment when you get higher and when you learn things... The moment of the beginning of the knowledge. Actually we are already working on the next one which should be named “Maturity” (that name might be changed), then will follow  “The Fifth Season”, “Death” and “Eternal Life”. With this last CD, we close the concept and in the same way that the name sounds like the first CD, the story begins again, and never ends as long as there will be human people on Earth. Now the only thing we hope is to be able to finish this long concept. Still 4 CDs to do, we know it won’t be finished before a couple of years !!!

The titles of the songs are very plain in some cases like "Copyright", "Clock", & "Time". What exactly are the lyrics about to INHUMATE songs?
Many people already told us that we had strange names for our tracks, but that’s also a particularity of INHUMATE. We could also do tracks like “cock into the meatgrinder” or “Hammer crushed tits”, but we’re not into that kind of lyrics. So, back to your question “Clock” is about time. In time the strongest state is mineral, the second is vegetal and the weakest one is animal... So, you see it’s a kind of reflection about what we are and how long will we be... “Copyright” is dealing with the cloning problem. The clones are opening an ethic problem but also a metaphysical one : what can be the difference between man and God and the one between a clone and a human... “Time” is about time... You know many lyrics are dealing with the concept I explained before and it’s very difficult for me to explain exactly what they are meaning in their deep side. Christophe writes 99 % of the lyrics and he really knows what is inside those lyrics.  And I think his kind of writing is really good because it’s not very easy to find the meaning of all his literature !

Is Grind Your Soul INHUMATE's own label? Will G.Y.S. always release INHUMATE's releases?
Grind Your Soul can be considered as INHUMATE own label, why not ? It’s an association we put up to promote the band (but in facts I’m doing almost all the work). Now it became a Distro list (which is run by Christophe). It helps us to et some money to pay all that’s around INHUMATE (studio, CD pressing, booklet artists, T-shirts, promotion, etc...). In the beginning we didn’t know if we should look for another label, now things are sure, we will try to produce all INHUMATE CD through Grind Your Soul. Why ? For 2 reasons : The first one is that we can stay absolutely independent in that way and the second is that when bands are signed, they don’t work anymore and think that the label gonna do everything... I hate this fucking attitude (as I already told it before I think). Too many bands become lazy after having signed and the underground scene is not for such people I think. The underground is a perpetual fight, but a good fight : the constructive fight that pushes you to your best ! I’m doing music to have some fucking good times and want to give to people who listen to me the best I can and not shit things done too fast because of lack of money or motivation... Fuck that rock star attitude !

If your cock would shoot out burning acid, who would be your first target for a good old fashion facial shot?

Someone called D.P.B. !!! (private joke, sorry...)
