Duo sat perched on a window seal
seemingly flipping through a magazine with headphones in his ear, bopping his
head occasionally to the beat pounding from the headset. Try as he might he couldn't keep his mind
from wandering away from the magazine and to the boy practicing his sword play
on the lawn before him.
Wufei stood in the middle of a small grass yard in the back
of the safe house the two of them had winded up staying in together. The sweat poured off of him as he repeatedly
slashed at invisible opponents with his sword. He had a look of complete
concentration on his face, a look of anger...but in his eyes there was a look
of sadness to Duo.
It had been only a few weeks since the destruction of
Wufei's home colony. All of the boys
knew what had happened but none had said so much as a word to Wufei about
it....not that they didn't all care and wish for the well being of the other
boy...they just weren't sure what to say.
Words were of little comfort when everything you'd ever known and loved
had been lost, Duo knew this for a fact.
The other boy continued to slash at
invisible opponents in the grass area.
He swung his sword with powerful thrusts left and right, breathing
heavily, never stopping in his fluid motions.
Duo sighed and flipped another page in the magazine glancing at it for
only a second before turning his attention back to the boy in the grass. The setting sun cast an orange glow all
about the two boys and Wufei seemed to be dancing in the golden light that was
slowly draining from the sky. Duo ran
his eyes over the smooth curves of the other boys body, over his well developed
muscles and tight frame...he wanted nothing more than to grab the other boy in
his arms and make him forget he'd ever been sad or hurt. A slight blush rose to his cheeks at the
thought. He shouldn't be thinking such
thoughts about the other boy. He should
be concerned for him, he was probably in a very fragile state wether he showed
it or not and all he was thinking about was...was...how much he liked the other
boy. How much he wanted to hold him in
his arms and protect him. Out of all of
the boys Wufei was the one he wanted to be with forever. He was the one.
Duo 's thoughts stopped when he
realized Wufei had stopped moving. He
stood in the middle of the grass, back towards Duo, with his head slightly
bowed and his eyes squeezed tightly shut.
"Me and the dragon can chase all the pain away.
So before I end my day, remember...

His head hurt, his body hurt, his
heart hurt...everything was wrong. All
wrong and could never be right again.
He knew it. His mind raced with
all these unwanted thoughts as he swung his sword through the air. He had lost again. He had lost again and now everyone else was gone because of
him. Why did everyone else always have
to leave him? He tried to push these
thoughts out of his head as he swung the sword around forcibly but they kept
creeping back in. He furrowed his brow
in frustration as he swung hard to his right, than his left again. He couldn't understand it...he didn't want
to understand it. He didn't want to
think about it at all. None of this
should have ever happened, he thought as he slashed through the air with his
sword as if he could kill the things inside his head with the blade of his
sword. If Meiren hadn't...if he had
been strong enough then she could have...if he had been strong enough know he
could have...he could have...Could have.
Could have but didn't.
He hadn't even realized he had
stopped his sword play until he suddenly felt the hot tears running down his
face. He just stood where he was no
longer able to hold it in. It hurt...he
hurt so bad. The sword fell from his
hand and landed softly in the grass next to him...he didn't care...he just
didn't care anymore. He had nothing
left to care about. It had all been
taken away...he had let it all be taken away.
Suddenly two strong arms wrapped
around him from behind, causing him to whip his head up in surprise only to be
pulled back tightly against another chest.
He was completely wrapped in that embrace, the two arms encircled him so
as to pin his own arms against his body leaving him momentarily unable to break
free. A head rested on his shoulder
after a moment as the arms continued to hold him tightly.
"Duo..." Wufei said with surprise in an undeniably
weary voice. He had completely
forgotten the other boy was there. He
stiffened up and got ready to apologies for such an outburst but Duo tightened
his embrace.
"Wu..." he said in a
gentle voice into the other boys ear catching Wufei completely off guard,
"it's alright to cry...everyone hurts sometimes. There's nothing wrong with needing to let it out Wu...you can
tell me if you want. I can...help you
make the pain go away. I promise."

Wufei froze in his arms as tears
continued to stream down his face. Duo
still held onto him tightly. He
breathed heavily as he just stood there in that comforting embrace...comforting? Pity?
That's all this was. Duo was
feeling pity for him. He closed his
eyes tightly, embarrassed that he had made such a scene in front of the other
boy. Duo had, had no other choice but
to come over and try to stop him from blubbering like a baby. He was just being the nice guy he was. Pity.
That's all it was. He...he
didn't want Duo to see him like this...he didn't want pity from him. Not from him. He quickly stepped forward and shook Duo's arms loose from him,
keeping his face away from Duo's line of site he grabbed his sword and took a
few steps forward.
"I'm...I'm sorry for making a
scene...I'm fine," and with that said he quickly ran passed Duo and into
the small house not even bothering to close the door behind him as he ran
straight towards his room and closed the door behind him.
"Me and my valuable friend
can fix all the pain away

Duo sighed and stared after the
other boy. That hadn't gone as well as
he had wanted it to. He knew Wufei
wouldn't take well to any kind of help from anyone...but he...he didn't want
the other boy to be sad...he knew if he would just let him he could make him
forget all the pain...Duo himself had done it so many times. He just wanted to hold him and let him
cry...if he'd just cry; if he'd just let it all out he knew he'd feel
better. He knew Wufei saw emotions as a
weakness, hell they all did say for him.
"Baka" he thought to himself with a weak smile.
"Don't think I'm just gonna
leave you to be eaten up by grief. I
couldn't stand that anymore than you could." he said as he quietly entered
the house and headed towards Wufei's room.
"Never thought I'd get any higher
Never thought you'd fuck with my brain
Never thought all this could expire
Never thought you'd go break the chain"
Duo silently pushed open the door
to the other boys room only to be greeted with darkness. He waited a moment for his eyes to adjust
than spotted Wufei sitting on the edge of his bed, knees drawn up to his
chest, staring at the wall. It was heartbreaking to see...he looked so
small and tired...he looked completely defeated.
Wufei cast a weary eye towards
Duo. He just wanted him to leave him
alone...he didn't want him to see him like this...to see him so weak and
pathetic. He didn't want...he didn't
know what he didn't want...what he wanted...he just didn't want to think; he
didn't want to feel.
"Please," Wufei started
in a dispirited voice, "I'm sorry...I'm fine really...just tired..."
"Bullshit," Duo said as he entered the room and closed
the door behind him, not bothering to turn the light on. In a gentler tone he said, "You may be
alright with you just letting your grief eat you alive but I'm not," he
said as he took a seat on the bed next to Wufei.
Wufei quickly turned his head away
so that Duo couldn't see his face but remained quiet. Why was he here? What did
any of this matter to him? If he was
just pitying him he should have been content with him saying he was
alright...right? He had sounded so
sincere though..."I can...help you make the pain go away. I promise." he had said...it had
sounded so nice. He almost believed
him. He wanted to believe it. He squeezed his eyes shut again and brought
his arms up to cover his face. He wanted
something...what? He wanted...to
cry...cry? Why did he want to cry? That wouldn't help anything. She'd still be dead...they'd all still be
dead...he'd still be alone.
"You don't have to be
alone," Duo said in a gentle voice
as he reached over and took Wufei's chin in his hand. Wufei stared at him wide
eyed.
"They all died right? But they died so you could live, ne?"
Duo inquired as he held his chin, lightly, staring into his troubled eyes.
"But...but...what's the point
if they're all dead!" Wufei
exclaimed, staring into those deep purple eyes that were looking at him, not
with pity...but with something else...
"Would you let them die in
vain?" Duo asked still staring
intently at the other boy...waiting for him to understand...to know that it
wasn't pity he felt towards him...not pity...
"No! Never!" Wufei
whispered angrily.
"They will you know. They'll die in vain. Even if you defeat all of your enemies
they'll still die in vain." Duo said
in a quiet voice with a dark look in his eyes.
A terrified look crossed Wufei's
face as he said, "What...what do
you mean? If I defeat the enemy than
they can be avenged and their deaths won't be in vain!" He said in a near pleading voice.
"No. They died so you could live...they are already dead. You said what's the point if they are
already dead...what's the point if you're all dead. Even if you defeat the enemy you'll be dead because you won't be
living. You're going to break
Wufei...if you keep on going like this you're going to shatter." Duo said, in a sad voice.
"Wha...what? I don't..." Wufei began but was silenced by Duo's mouth over his. Duo pressed his lips to Wufei's in a gentle
kiss than pulled back and looked at him.
"Just let it out, sweet, and
you'll feel better. You can't handle
all of that on your own...and you don't have to...let me handle it with
you. Let's neither of us be alone
anymore." He softly said as he
pulled Wufei into his arms again and held him tightly.
Wufei froze in Duo's embrace, face against Duo's chest. He didn't want them to die in vain...Duo was
right. He knew it. He wasn't going to last like this. It hurt too much. Everything hurt too much.
Would he feel better if he cried?
Why would that help? He'd still
be alone...but he said he'd stay with him.
So that neither of them would be alone.
Did he mean it? He wanted...he
wanted...he wanted him to stay with him.
He wanted Duo to stay with him more than anything else in the entire
world. He never wanted him to leave.
Wufei finally lost control and
broke down in Duo's arm's clinging tightly to the other boy who in turn held
him just as tightly back. He
cried. He cried and cried and cried until
he couldn't cry anymore. All the while
Duo held him in his arms and as the darkness intensified with the vanishing of
the sun from the horizon, Duo softly said as he stroked Wufei's hair, "my
sweet prince, you are the one," leaving just the two of them together in
the darkness.
