Subject: Widener Republican Law Caucas Meeting Minutes, 1-24-2001
Date: Wed, 24 Jan 2001 21:58:33 -0500

Fellow Defenders of the Faith, here's the minutes from our first meeting---1-24-2001

I:    Call to order, 4:00pm
II:   General Elections
-in a landslide victory Ron Poliquin was elected to the office of President
-in a hotly contested race, Charlie Chin was elected to the office of Vice President
-in a unanimous vote, Zach Naylor was elected to the office of Treasurer
-it was close, but yours truly was elected to the office of Secretary
III:  Discussion of the Agenda
-First order of business was determining the speaker
-Shannon Reeves was chosen after some debate to be the speaker for an event to take place later in the              semester.  It's believed he'll bring name recognition to the Caucus, also groups besides conservatives
will be more likely to attend the event with him as the keynote speaker.  As an added bonus, the budget
         for the speaker will drop.
IV:  Ronald Reagan Birthday Celebration
-We resolved to host a celebration for Ronaldus Magnus on Feb 6, 2001.  Ideas for the event included
the handing out of jellybeans, having videos of Mr. Reagan play at the booth, copies of speeches and
information on Mr. Reagan and Alzheimer's Disease (handouts), photos, and general merrymaking at
Scrimmages or such local pub as will be decided upon for toasting to Mr. Reagan's health.
-Michelle Bimson was appointed committee chair to handle the details of the event
V:  Young American Foundation Conference
-General info was discussed regarding the upcoming conference of YAF, planned in March.  Perhaps a
group from the Caucus will attend.  Hotel expenses seem to be the only fees involved, as travel costs
(outside 50 miles) should be reimbursed through Widener.
VI:  Debate with the ACLU
-It was suggested the Caucus (or members thereof) take place in a series of debates with that bastion of
liberalism, the ACLU.  Our Vice President volunteered to handle negotiations and settle terms with the ACLU
to provide a fair and balanced forum.
VII:  Budget
-The Budget as proposed on the handouts passed out at the start of the meeting were adjusted:
        -Ronald Reagan Birthday Celebration, $200
        -Speaker, Mr. Reeves, $2200
        -T-shirts, $200
-The Budget was voted on and passed unanimously.
VIII:  Affiliations and Alliances
-Treaties are to be drawn up and contact to be established with the following organizations, and as many
         more as are thought up:
        -Young American Foundation
        -DE State Republican Committee
        -The Federalist Society
-The Republican Caucus of Widener's PA Campus (if it exists)
IX:  Resolutions of Support
-The Caucus decided to draft resolutions of support to be sent out to various Republicans and/or conservative
people or organizations in need of our support.  Included in this list is a birthday card signed by the Caucus
to be sent to Ronald Reagan on his birthday.
X:  Press Releases
-The press releases were discussed, and what was to appear in the first of the PRs was decided on
XI:  Conservative "Action Packs"
-The President discussed sending out to members various e-mails or information regarding the Cause.
It was agreed that the more the merrier, and they can be passed on to liberal friends---we must do our best
to enlighten the rest of the world!
XII:  T-Shirts
-It was resolved to create t-shirts for the Caucus, as any worthy organization should have an official t-shirt.
-Ideas for the shirts will be aired at the next meeting.
XIII:  The Caucus Website
-http://www.oocities.org/wuslrc/
-to post items to the website, password is (shockingly enough): reagan
XIV:  Community Service
-It was proposed that the Caucus be actively involved in community service.  Perhaps we could help out
some weekend morning at the Ronald McDonald House, or help with the DE Republican Committee...
-A committee was formed, and a tentative date near the end of February on a Saturday morning was
         proposed for the first activity.
XV:  Open Forum
-The times and place for future meetings was discussed and decided upon after much debate.
-For the time being, meetings will be held in L126 (the same room) at 4pm on Thursdays.
-For now, the meetings will be weekly, until things begin to pick up.  Then perhaps they will change to
every two weeks.  We'll cross that bridge when we come to it.
XVI:  Meeting Adjourned, 4:55pm

That's it until the next exciting installment (I know you're all waiting with baited breath)!
