Proposed Budget, Fall '01
This is what I handed in on 4/24/01 when we were told
to make a budgetary submission to the SBA.  I can be
discussed and amended when we first meet in the fall.
It's a bit hard to read since it's cut and pasted from the
original files, but i'd be happy to make copies or e-mail
files to any member/interested party who wants them.

Student Bar Association Executive Board
Dear SBA Executive Board:
Subject: Event for Fall 2001
This semester the Widener University School of Law Republican Caucus hosted Shannon Reeves on March 19th. By all accounts, the event was a major success not only for the Republican Caucus but also for the law school community as a whole. The event exposed students and members to Mr. Reeves’ dynamic message of self-empowerment. More importantly, the event helped awaken a political dialogue on campus. The Republican Caucus hopes to continue that dialogue.
In continuance of our mission to expose students to varying ideals and viewpoints, the Republican Caucus is proposing to host ABC news correspondent John Stossel next fall on Widener’s campus. Mr. Stossel joined the ABC news magazine, 20/20 in 1981. He began doing one-hour primetime specials in 1994. The specials, which have consistently rated among the top news programs, have earned Stossel critical acclaim. He has been called “the most consistently thought-provoking TV reporter of our time” (Dallas Morning News). In addition, Mr. Stossel has won 19 Emmy awards for his reporting.
Mr. Stossel’s visit will be distinctive to the Widener University School of Law community by his prominence as a media star and his unique libertarian take on government. Topics in his prime time specials have included: “Are We Scaring Ourselves to Death?” “The Blame Game,” and “Is America Still Number 1?”
The Republican Caucus has already secured $6,000 out of Mr. Stossel’s $15,000 honorarium. We are requesting the remaining $9,000 from the Student Bar Association. We are making the proposal at this time in order to take advantage of any leftover-nonrollover funds from this year’s budget and for consideration in next year’s budget.
Please have the fullest assurance that the Republican Caucus will be completely dedicated in making Mr. Stossel’s visit the most highly anticipated and successful lecture at Widener next year. Additionally, I have enclosed a formal budget for the John Stossel event and additional materials on Mr. Stossel.
Sincerely,
Ronald Poliquin
