Amanni

Amanni woke to a crash rolling over into her sleeping furs she say Jaleo bouncing around the room and inadvertently knocking over an empty jar in the process. Once Jaleo realized he’d woken her he landed on her chest, bouncing and started chattering hyperactively. Amanni glared at the little pest did her best to ignore him rolling over trying to go back to sleep; this didn’t deter the young firelizard. Jaleo continued his incessant chatter pouncing on one of her feet and clung to it when she did her best to shake the little pest off.

“Okay I’m up, now what do you want at this ungodly hour?” Amanni said sitting up in bed leaned over and started to detach the hatchling from her foot. Wriggling out of her grasp, Jaleo bounced off the bed and over to the open metal shutter she been in the habit of leaving partly open when thread wasn’t a threat since she hated how stuffy it got. Getting up she pushed the shutter open she was blasted with chilly air which wasn’t overly uncommon in the winter but what she saw wasn’t common, snow. She couldn’t help but gawk at the white stuff that covered Wu’s bowl this was certainly shocking. Jaleo landed on her shoulder hiding under her curtain of hair his shrill chirping had subsided to a much softer noise almost like that of what a feline made when happy.

Amanni gently removed Jaleo from her setting him on her bed; she then pulled out a pair of breaches along with a long sleeved shirt she pulled off her nightclothes proceeding too dress hurriedly. Then she pulled on her boots and jacket over that before offering Jaleo her arm, which he crawled up eagerly and curled on her shoulder, then left her hopping to get a good look at the snow before her father wanted her in the stables.

Once out in the open Amanni couldn’t help but look up at the sky in awe, in all of the Weyrs history it had never ever snowed. Jaleo poked his head out of her hair as hissed at a flak of snow that landed on the sleeve of her jacket. She couldn’t help but giggle at Jaleo’s reaction to this strange event he seemed absolutely terrified of this strange cold wet stuff.

“Quite curious… isn’t it?” Amanni couldn’t help but scowl a little when she heard this, the weyrling it belonged to wasn’t someone she wished to deal with this early in morning with. Turning she saw the tall figure of the young man the voice belonged to and not far behind him was his odd colored dragonet Vesyrath who was quite the opposite of his rider H’rynun.

“What do you want H'rynun especially at this time in the morning?” She scowled when he simply smiled at her, H'rynun had transferred from Shinack about a month or so ago along with his dragon Vesyrath, she found the former quite annoying though the latter was quite a different story. Thought still weyrlings the two where quite proficient in ferrying visitors to and from Wu Weyr, it had been in that manner they had meet. When Vesyrath and his bond had been recruited to take her to the Turasake Hold. Which was under Seiryuu Weyr’s jurisdiction, they had ended up at Seiryuu and when all was said they’d ended up bringing Jaleo’s egg home to Wu not the promise of the new runners for her father.

“Vesyrath wanted to see though I’m not positive why…” H’rynun wasn’t overly impressed with his dragonets fascination with Amanni but he wasn’t going to deny his dragon from the occasional visit. He did know the reason he was up and fully awake because it seemed Vesyrath wanted to see if he could get the annoying girl to talk to F’nar about going to Nidus Rylesen because of the remarkably large winter clutch they had from the recent frenzy.

Yes you do H’ryn don’t lie! Vesyrath scolded his rider for not telling the truth to Amanni, his rider had even agreed that Amanni could be a decent rider… though H’rynun hadn’t seem to like the concept of it all. He’d said with his luck they’d end up in the same wing with him and Ves. Vesyrath didn’t understand what would be so bad about that though. He knew deep down H’rynun had liked Amanni the first time they’d meet though he did not like admitting it.

“Sorry Ves I’m just not willing to get into some argument with her, you know she doesn’t like me much. This was your idea, I know you can talk to her so you tell it to her about you idea.” H’rynun wasn’t impressed with Ves’s fascination with Amanni but he couldn’t blame his life mate. He had realized it mostly stemmed from his attraction to her though he knew this wasn't the time to pursue such things. Part of him wanted her to stand at Nidus Rylesen, as annoying as he found her at times Amanni did have his respect. Though he was unsure if Ves could talk her into standing in the first place since Amanni was completely devoted to the runners of the Weyr. He’d never seen anyone handle the runners in the manner she did it was almost like she had the same relationship with the runners that a rider and dragon had.

Amanni sighed as it was obvious the two where chatting it fascinated her how different the two of them could act at times. She couldn’t help but smile as the dragonet flapped his wings with indignants when his rider obvious said something that upset him before he turned to her and crooned at her.

Ulleseth has spread the word that there is a flurry clutch at Nidus Rylesen and he and the other search dragons are looking for candidates. Said anyone that a dragon of our weyr deems worthy can go talk to F’nar about standing. And… and… Amanni sighed wondering what Ves was getting at, certainly he hadn’t heard that at one point she’d been searched years ago, but even then she’d declined she had felt her place was with the runners then and now. Reaching over she scratched Ves’s eye ridge trying to clam the dragonet that had worked himself up about this all.

“Ves I don’t think I’m so post to have a dragon I can’t just stop working with my runners…” She sighed as she could almost feel the young dragons disappointment. She looked over to H’rynun hopping he’d be able to help explain to his life mate.

“Ves love you can’t make her stand, if she feels her place is with the runners then it’s with the runners.”

But why H’rynun she’d make such a good rider… Ves pouted. I’m sure there’s a hatchling that wouldn’t mind her spending time with her runners… talk to her please? Ves nudged his rider closer to him and Amanni with her tail.

“Standing doesn’t guarantee you impressing you know Amanni?” H’rynun knew if he didn’t do something to help Ves would mope for quite awhile not wanting to see his lifemate in distress. “Also I’m sure you’d not have to give up your runners completely quite a few riders still have runners though they don’t have as much time I’m sure if you did impressed your dragon would understand your desire for the time spent with the runners. “ H’rynun sighed hopping what he said however stupid it sounded would make Amanni think about it at least.

“I guess I can think about it,” Amanni said in a hushed voice watching the snowfall around them. “Maybe we can go talk to F’nar and Ulleseth about it after first meal and see what they think?” Silently Amanni told herself she would stand like H'rynun said she wouldn't impress unless the dragon would understand her need to spend sometime with the runners.
