| Updated 1-28-00 I have just found some new and exciting info on Matthew Knight. In the Cabell Co VA Court Records Minutes Book for YR 1826 to 1835 the following. "Matthew Knight(orphan of Polly Knight) came into court and chose Guardian William Morrison Bond: Ingram Roffe. This is exciting news as we now have a name for Mathew's mother where before we only had an initial P.. Now Adalaide Knight Dean the granddaughter of Matthew b, 1872 . In 1946 she left a record behind of the Knight families as well as her other family ancestors, Stanley ,Morrison and Mayes. In 7 yrs of research I have found only a few minor mistakes in her record. She said that Matthew was really the son of Thomas Walker Sr. in Ireland, Thomas died and His wife Mary remarried a Knight . In all public records in Matthew's lifetime he always gave KY as his place of birth. Now with the info I found in the court minutes and with the info of Adalaide this is what I was able to find. Matthew's death record gives his mother as P. Knight The minutes say that Matthew is the orphan of Polly Knight (This agrees with death record. Then I needed to find who Polly was married to before. Adalaide said Matthew mother was married to a Walker and Matthew said he was born in KY. I looked in the KY marriages and in the year of 1810 Polly Walker married a Shearwood Knight. Although this looks very interesting, I am unsure about this connection. I think further work needs to be done to try to find the parents of Matthew and his place of birth. Other new info (5-2000) Matthew bought 50 acres off Samson Sanders on Heath Creek. I don't know which Heath Cr but Wayne lived on Heath creek. The Morrisons liven on the Upper Heath Creek, soit could be either place. Lower heath Ck and sold it in 1859 to a MR Love. property bourdered Jerimiah Witcher's property. I think this property is in the area of the Esquire Golf Course, Swamp branch or in that general area. | ||||||||||||||
