Born April 17,1939 in Cool Ridge,
WV, a small town just south of Beckley. Grew up listening to country and
bluegrass over WSM in Nashville, TN. In June of 1956, Al enlisted in the
U.S. Army at the age of 17. He was honorably discharged in June of 1959.
Lived around Washington, D.C. area for three years, before moving to Toledo.
Ohio. Drove tractor trailer for over 33 years, traveling all over the US
and Canada. In 1988, moved to Monroe County in WV and started working at
the Greenbrier. A world famous resort hotel in White Sulphur Springs, WV. Al Met up with the West Virginia Bluegrass Connection
in 1989, at the Summersville Bluegrass Festival. He was overcome by their
close harmony and their smooth delivery of traditional bluegrass music.
So overcome, that he became involved with the promoting of sales and helping
with sound and stage setup. "I believe we can take our place among the
best when it comes down to earth bluegrass" says Al Crawford. Al has written several songs recorded by WV Bluegrass
Connection and other local entertainers. In 1999, Al was presented theDistinguished West Virginia Award byGov. Cecil
Underwoodfor his contribution to song writing and bluegrass
music.
