The Bowden brothers were both born and raised in Ronceverte, WV. Billy was born on March 11, 1936 and Lester was born on May 13, 1939. The brothers were greatly influence by both their parents Earl and Lena Bowden. Earl played several instruments such as the manadolin, fiddle, and the banjo. He played the banjo the old thumb drop style, in which he won a Three State Championship in the Chareston Armory in Nov 27, 1927.
Lester and Billy have been performing since their early teens. They have performed with Tom T. Hall, Dave Dudley, Flatt and Scruggs, Mel Street and performed on the telvision show "Top of the Morning" with Don Reno and Red Smiley. They were offered a chance to go with Tom T. Hall, but refused the offer, they stuck with bluegrass, the music they love and stand for.
