On the morning of August 8th, Company K was guarding
St. Suzanne, while the rest of the 3rd Battalion
moved by motor to the east, near the town of Degre. (Since St. Suzanne
was a road center, single German vehicles were coming in along several
roads, unaware the Americans were there). Finding the town occupied
by Americans, the Germans attacked, firing on the town square with a
tank, and did considerable damage………
On the Company Morning Report of 16 August 1944, Eddie is listed at Missing in Action on August 8th. The following day, the Company Morning Report changes Eddie’s status as ‘former MIA 8 August 1944 to Killed in Action 8 August 1944".
