In April 1995, a milestone took place for the Black Standard Poodle. Two pups were trained for Pilot Dogs, Incorporated, a non-profit organization to train and furnish Pilot Dogs to guide the blind. These pups proved to have what it takes in personality, training ability, and friendliness. Along, with the traits, the fact that poodles are non-shedding and possible non-allergenic only enhances the opportunities. There are visually impaired individuals that have allergies, and at one time could not have a Pilot Dog. The Standard Poodle has now been considered the successful choice for this situation. Other considerations taken into account were the size, personality, trainability, and out-going trats. Let's all hope those pups in the program now will do as well as the first 2 dogs! A special thanks to all of those helping the Pilot Program, and to my own special boys, Blue Diamond's Ambassador and Blue Diamonds Follow My Lead. Let everyone see what a WONDERFUL and special breed we are privileged to know. Please support this great program.
