Amy Christine Dumas was born on April 14, 1975 in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. While in high school, she took up swimming and practiced judo competitively, she also joined a band called 3 Card Trick, she played the bass guitar. She was a roadie for a band a year before she got intrested in professional wrestling. She stayed in Atlanta for a year to attend college. She then moved Washington D.C., then on to Richmond, VA., where she resided for three years. Her friends watched wrestling and Amy almost at once dismissed the sport as being "stupid". She caught eye of the Luchadores from Mexico on the television one night and was immediately intregued by their wrestling acrobatics. Amy began saving up her money to head down to Mexico in 1998.
Amy: "I went down there and had my 'Let's Go To Mexico' book and booked myself a hotel room, bought a newspaper and looked through it and found out where the events were, jumped in a cab and said "Take me here". I bought a ticket off the street for $10 (got really ripped off because of our dollar) but it was a front row ticket. I sat next to this woman who hadn't missed a show in thirty years and was talking to me about that. "
Amy got by on a limited amount of money to her name. She used her high school level Spanish to get her through conversations with people down in Mexico. That didn't stop her from making a name for herself while she was down there. She kept showing up at the arenas every night. She was there for six weeks when they finally allowed her to do guest spots on their shows. They also allowed Amy to do a managerial spot, but she really wanted to get into the ring. Her money was close to running out, but since she had stuck it out and proved she was dedicated, they told her they would train her if she came back. She went back to her home in the states and saved her money again before she once again headed back to Mexico. Lita spent three weeks in Mexico, where she learned from Ricky Santana, Miguel Perez, and Kevin Quinn to take bumps and perform manoeuvres in the ring. Once more, she ran out of money and headed back to the states with more knowledge in the sport. She went to Chicago and trained at Steel Domain for a week. She was running lower and lower on funds, but she was so hooked on wrestling by this time that money was a second thought in her mind. She gained more training in the sport, after that was when Amy started working the Indy scene.
Amy: It was a NWA Mid-Atlantic show. They Hardy Boys were booked and it was my third Indy show and they said, "Hey, we've got a ring" and they were on the road with the WWF but not full time. They said, "We train on Sunday's sometimes when we're in town and if we're not there, some of the other guys are. You're welcome to come down to the ring" and I did and I learned so much down there.
While working Indies in North Carolina, she would go to the Hardy's on Sundays to train. Paul Heyman approached Amy and she was offered a deal with ECW in early 1999. Heyman made it clear that he wanted Amy to perform as a valet only. July 18, 1999, Amy, then known as Angelica, got her first pay-per-view exposure at ECW's Heat Wave. She aligned forces with Danny Doring that night. Amy got involved with Jazz, another ECW female performer, but she was not satisfied with her involvement in ECW. ECW star Rob Van Dam introduced Amy to Dory Funk and his wife. They started up a conversation with Amy. Funk saw something he admired in Amy and offered her an invitation to go to his training camp.
At the camp, Amy trained with 23 guys. Dory Funk treated her no different than the other guys, at Amy's request. Amy quickly gained respect from the other guys at the camp and graduated from The Funking Conservatory in August 1999. September 19, 1999, Amy made her final ECW Pay-Per-View appearance. She briefly brawled with Jazz at Anarchy Rulz. Dory Funk and his wife began compiling old videos they had taken of Amy and sent it to WWF Talent Relations. At first, the WWF wasn't to sure about hiring Amy because they didn't like "her look", but eventually they thought Dumas had talent and dedication and later offered her a contract without even watching her in a try out match. After spending her Y2K New Years in Cancun, and working as one of Godfather's Ho's to get used to the crowds, Amy worked her first dark match with Essa Rios (then known as Papi Chulo), landing a moonsault after Essa did one on his opponent. From then on Amy gained the respect of her peers. Lita made her first WWF Pay-Per-View appearance with Essa Rios on April 30, 2000.
As her storylines as "Lita" in the WWF continued to escalate, Amy herself began making more and more public appearances. She was a guest on WWF.com's Byte This, shot her first WWF Divas photo shoot during July 2000 in New York City, had a small article on her written in the September 2000 issue of Raw magazine, appeared on Regis and Kathy Lee to cook her Spicy Black Beans with Onion & Bacon, and spoke at the WWF's Youth Vote Campaign during the summer.
Amy made several public appearances during the summer, alone and along side the Hardys as well. Her storylines in the WWF had continued to grow a great amount. In May 2000, Essa Rios turned his back on Lita after a feud with Chyna had just ended. Essa Rios abused Lita by giving her a power bomb, and then a moonsault after a match Essa had just lost against Jeff Hardy. Seeing this happening, and obviously not liking it, the Hardy Boyz came to the aid of Lita and carried her away. Not long after Lita started dressing knd of "hardy-ish" and got her well deserved title shot at Stephanie McMahons Women's Title belt, but lost due to outside interference (compliments of Kurt Angle).
By King of the Ring in late June, the Hardy Boyz and Lita were a trio to be reckoned with. And the infamous feud between Trish Stratus and Lita was in full swing, and had become quite a crowd pleaser. Eventually, after getting put through a table, teaming with some of the top Superstrars in the Federation (Chris Jericho, The Rock) and becoming the most popular Diva in the history of the WWF, Lita got her third title shot at Stephanie's Women's Belt. Lita was able to live her dream as she won the WWF Women's Championship from Stephanie, with The Rock as the special guest referee!
Yet, as her team the Hardy Boyz fued with Edge & Christian continued to flare, Lita felt the wrath when they interfered in a fatal four-way for the Women's Cahmpionship, costing Lita the belt... to Ivory, who had recently joined the Right To Censor. Lita had won the Women's Championship Title only to lose it to Ivory two months later.
In November, Lita got her title shot at Survivor Series against Ivory. This was Amy's first one-on-one PPV match, and things didn't go as well as she would have liked. For both Amy and Lita, who ended up loosing the match. Amy ended up getting 4 stitches on her forehead, thanks to an enzigury kick that wasn't landed right. By this time her popular feud with Trish Stratus had come to an end (after a bra and panties match... which Lita won) and Amy had just finished shooting her second WWF Divas major photo shoot in Jamaica (along with Chyna and Debra).
Trish: " I think my feud with Lita was one of the best in a long time."
As a fued with Dean Malenko started to fire up, Amy appeared on the cover of December's WWF Magazine; exclusive footage from the Jamacia photo shoot was shown on Entertainment Tongiht. Amy had also wrestled at her first UK only PPV, as well as competing in a UPW Indy Show along with the Hardys against former OMEGA wrestler Lexie Fyfe and Ballard Brothers. Abut this same time, Amy shot her first commercial along side the Hardys. The commercial was for Chef Boyardee.
During December, Lita's feud with Dean Malenko started to take shape. It seemed Dean liked Lita a lot. Malenko then challenged Lita to a Light Heavyweight Title match with a small stipulation added. If Dean won, Lita would have to go out on a date with him. At the end of the match, Malenko put the clover leaf on Lita, getting the win and snagging himself a date with the red haird beauty. They went out to dinner and Dean thought he was going to get more than just dessert. Lita went to a hotel room with him, where he was teased him into thinking she was hot for him, but surprised him by having the Hardy Boyz show up and beat him down. WWF Armageddon came along, it was Radicalz vs. Hardy Boyz/Lita in an elimination match. In the end, it came down to Dean and Lita, and Dean tortured Lita, and he teased some pins on her, and then he eventually put her in the Texas Cloverleaf to get the win.
Come January 2001, Lita and Dean Malenko's fued had grown a lot... but the tow had both sustained injuries. JR reported that "Lita has been having some back problems including a bulging disc. She will soon see a back specialist on Jan. 3 and her in-ring activity will be limited the next few weeks." The WWF wrote Malenk out of the picture so he could have time off the recover by having him spy on Lita in the shower, and then having the Hardyz attack him for doing so.
Though she didn't wrestle much during January, Amy attended UPN's Press Day in Los Angeles, and Howard Stern's birthday party in New York City. Amy also could be heard in late January on G-105 radio, on which she took part in a short Q&A. Another major landmark that Amy and/or "Lita" hit during January was when she was awarded Diva Of the Year... by a landslide!
Then came February, Amy's busiest Month ever. She was in Canada for a week promoting a new deal between the WWF and Molson Ex. While in Canada, Amy show a Molson Ex "sex Campaign" commercial, appeared on Much Music, Open Mike w/ Mike Bullard, The Law radio show along with many other small promotions.
As for Amy's alias Lita in February, things were interesting. Aside from the debut of her first official T-shirt. Dean came back, interfered in her and the Hardyz matches, kissed her... beat her up. You know, the usual. Lita was sick of this so she challenged Dean to a match on the February 19 edition of Raw is War. One on one, to settle things for once and for all. Matt Hardy was livid as Lita challenged Dean, thinking she'd get her herself hurt pretty badly. He was right. On Raw, Dean gave Lita a vicious beating. He tossed her around the ring, and even tossed the Ref. out as well. Dean continually prolonged the agony, mocking Lita as the match went on. Dean then went for a chair. Suddenly, Matt Hardy ran in from the crowd and knocked Dean silly with a steel chair. Three seconds later, Lita had defeated Dean Malenko!
After the match, Matt Hardy got a bit caught up in the victory celebration and kissed Lita on the lips! Lita looked a bit stunned at first, causing Matt to walk away, a bit embarrassed. Lita then took a minute to think about it -- and she ran after Matt and kissed him passionately on the ramp, as the 20,000 + fans on hand cheered wildly!
As Lita and Matt's on-screen relationship grew, so did rumors of an off-screen romance between the two. Although Amy and Matt had both denied it many times. Amy even denied it while in England on a promotional tour for the WWF (and this was after "the kiss").
While in the UK durning March 2001, Amy appeared on many English talks shows and such. Including Big Breakfast and Live & Kicking.
By late March, many of Amy's new endeavors presented themselves to the fans of the lovely Lita. It was announced that Lita would grace to 120 page Collectors Edition WWF Divas in Jamaica magazine; she and the Hardyz had finished a photo shoot for the very popular Rolling Stone magazine; and a cover for Raw Magazine was shot as well (in which were photos of her recent UK tour); it was announced that herself and three other Divas (Jackie, Trish and Chyna) would appear in the mens magazine FHM; and while in Canada for a couple house shows, she filmed her second appearance on the popular Canadian sports talk show, Off The Record.
When April rolled around, Amy and the Hardys showed up on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine. Her character "Lita" and the Hardy Boyz had a small feud with the now heel Stone Cold Steve Austin, HHH and Daddy's Little Girl aka Stephanie. She spent a quiet Easter at home with her family, and then it was back on the road!
During the spring months - Lita kept on helping the Hardy Boyz out in there matches, and had her own little "I respect you" feud (if you will even call it that) with the then WWF Womens Champ Chyna. Lita fought Chyna at Judgment day but was un-sucessful.
Amy appeareared on the cover of the July 2001 RAW magazine, in which she talked about the time she spent in London a few months ealier. It was also around this time that Lita's first home video was released, appropriately titled "It Just Feels Right". The video got rave reviews, and did even better on the shelves. It reportedly sold out in stores accross the nation, and WWFShopzone was on back order for up to a week!
Durning this fame-fiasco, Lita in engaged in a semi feud with Trish Stratus, but the two femme fatals put their differences aside and stood up to WCW's Torrie Wilson and Stacy Keibler. At the July 2001 Invasion PPV, They fought a 4 person tag 'Bra and Panties' match and won!
Another magazine was released, titled "Extreme" - it feautred Matt, Jeff and Amy and was a huge hit. About the same time, Ivory (who had joined WCW's Alliance) began fighting on and off again with Lita. After that that has died down, Lita had to contend with Chris Kanyon. Luckily, his crush on her didn't turn out the same way Eddie and Dean Malenko's did.
Around late Novemeber/early December, things turned ugly between Matt and Lita. At the same time, Matt and Jeff were having at each other and fightng between all three soon erupted everytime they were together. Whether it be Jeff screwing up a move, Matt's straying eyes, or whatever - it seemed obvious that Team Xtreme was dieing. BUT - there is always a but - the fans didn't except it. Even when it was Jeff vs. Matt w/ Lita as the special guest referee, the fans simply wouldn't let go of their precious Hardy Boyz. As of Jan. 15, 2002, they are still a team... although rumors of a Lita/RVD duo are buzzing around like mad. Amy spent Christmas holidays resting, as did the rest of Team Xtreme.
During January "Lita: It Just Feels Right was featured on WWF Fanatic Series. Amy had to fly overseas to promote the Jan. PPV in England on short notice, and was invitied to Singapore to take part in the MTV Music Awards (which take place in February). Busy, busy girl...
Amy Dumas now resides in Sanford, North Carolina. She has achieved a hell of a lot in her career... becoming the most loved female in the history of wresting, and she keeps getting more popular by day. Check back often as Amy's life continued to grow!
