Dudley Boyz win ‘em again

HERSHEY, Pa. – Sept. 21, 2003 – The most decorated tag team in sports-entertainment history just got even more decorated.

The Dudley Boyz are now 17-time Tag Team Champions after defeating La Resistance and Rob Conway in a Handicap Tables Match to win the World Tag Team Championship.

“Life certainly does not suck,” Bubba Ray Dudley said after the match. “I feel great, aside from a couple of bumps and bruises from a hard-fought match.”

Bubba added, “This (title reign) is quite special because it’s been so long since our last one. D-Von and I are just not going to go away. We’re definitely going to be around for a long time, like it or not.”

Bubba said tonight’s win was dedicated to Spike Dudley, and in memory of Freddie Blassie. Bubba also wrote the initials “LEF” on the tape on his left wrist. He said that stands for “Lower Eastside Federation,” a group of close friends from Erie, Pa., that he was giving a “shout out” to for one night only.

Bubba also said that this victory was for the fans.

“Thanks to all the fans who have supported us from the first day we stepped into this company,” he said. He added that the Dudley Boyz will be fighting champions, defending their titles throughout the country on television as well as on non-televised “house shows,” and he encouraged all fans to attend.

Bubba’s partner, D-Von, said that he was ecstatic to be able to claim that the Dudley Boyz have been World Champions more than any other team, and their names will always be in the history books.

“Like I’ve said before,” D-Von said, “if you think Chapter 1 of the Dudley Boyz was great, wait until you get a hold of Chapter 2. It’s just getting better as time goes on.”

Although his team lost, the match was still unforgettable for Rob Conway, who made his pay-per-view debut tonight.

“It’s something I’ve always been working for,” Conway said, “Now that it’s happened, it’s just as cool as I thought it was, and even cooler.”
