The Rock Speaks on Triple H's Movie Career, Wrestling & More
At 8:45 CT, The Rock was a guest this morning on The WGN Morning News. He was out promoting his upcoming movie, The Rundown, which also co-stars Seann William Scott. They opened the interview with his old entrance music. When Dean Richards, the interviewer, asked The Rock what brought him to Chicago, Rock wasted no time saying that he was there for no "monkey loving" (a reference to a scene from the movie). The Rundown was compared to "Indiana Jones". The Rock said that he and the producers were looking to make a movie in that same vein as "Jones", making sure that the movie made sense without sacrificing the story for special effects. Rock said that Christopher Walken is an "interesting" and great to work with. The Rock then did a deadpan imitation of Walken that had the studio busting up in laughter. When asked if Walken scares him, he replied that the only person that scares him is his wife whenever he mouths off to his wife. The Rock later also does another great impersonation of Arnold Schwarzenegger, who does a cameo in the movie.
They talked about The Rock traveling when his father was wrestling and he said that at around 9 or 10 years of age, he began to appreciate wrestling and the showmanship of it. He pointed out his father, Gorgeous George and Ric Flair as examples of what made wrestling interesting for him as a child. His football career, which started in high school and later at the University of Miami, was covered in which The Rock competed for the same field position as Warren Sapp (Sapp beat him out). Later, his football career brought him to the CFL where a back injury ended his career.
When asked if he would go back to the WWE , Rock said he would love to but that he wants to grow as an actor first and then will go back. Looking forward to maybe doing a comedy movie after Walking Tall, which is his next movie. Also talked about The Rock making cookies on Martha Stuart Live.
When asked what he thought about HHH signing a big movie deal, The Rock said it was the first he was hearing about it but that he thought it sounded great.
WGN had several children in the studio with The Rock and he was shown afterward signing autographs.
Overall, a fun, light-hearted interview. The
Rock looked a lot thinner and smaller than I think he has ever been in front
of the camera, but that would be expected with him trying to keep up his Hollywood
persona.
