Just 10 days before Judgment Day, the May 9 episode of SmackDown! emanated from the Arena at HarborYard in Bridgeport, Conn.!
Vince McMahon's personal assistant, Stacy Keibler, headed to the ring at the top of the show. Stacy danced for the crowd, bringing the sold-out throng to its feet. She then grabbed a microphone and introduced the owner of SmackDown! and her boss, Mr. McMahon.
The cheers turned to boos as the WWE co-owner headed for the ring, as Michael Cole and Tazz reported that Mr. McMahon had been in a foul mood for the past week. Vince asked Stacy to get another microphone, but as she stepped over the second rope with her long legs, Vince told her to forget about it, obviously just happy at seeing his assistant's assets!
Vince said that Stacy was a model employee, someone who will do everything he asks her to do. He said he wished he could clone her, but unfortunately, not everyone on SmackDown! was the same caliber. Mr. McMahon said he had some dissident employees, and the one at the top of the list was Triple H. Vince said he'd told Triple H last week not to physically interfere in Chris Jericho's Undisputed WWE Championship match against Hollywood Hulk Hogan. And although The Game hadn't physically interfered, Mr. McMahon said Triple H caused a distraction, costing Jericho the WWE Championship.
Vince said from now on, there would be some new rules for Triple H. He told The Game he was to come nowhere near him -- no closer than 10 feet. He also said The Game would do exactly as he told him to do, and he would do it with a smile. Vince reminded Triple H that he owned SmackDown! and he owned The Game, and if Triple H didn't do exactly as he said, there would be hell to pay.
That was all Triple H needed to hear. The Game headed to the ring, as Mr. McMahon scowled and screamed for him to stay away. Triple H stared Vince down, and questioned Vince's demand that he stay 10 feet away from him. So The Game stood 10 feet away from him, and then inched closer and closer and closer. The Game was soon nose-to-nose with Vince, and challenged Vince to destroy him. He said everything that came out of Vince's mouth was bull.
Triple H said he thought it was a lie, and said Stacy knew it was a lie, just like when Vince would tell Stacy that an old man could satisfy a 20-year-old woman! The Game told Vince to look at how Stacy was looking at The Game. Triple H got face to face with Stacy, and said she clearly wanted a young stud who would keep her satisfied all night long. Stacy smiled at the proposition! The Game questioned if she would rather have a wrinkled up old man with bad breath and a bad toupee!
The Game said it was also a lie when Vince would tell Stacy, "I don't know what happened -- this happens to a lot of guys!" Triple H said it was also a lie when Vince stood there au natural, looked down, and told Stacy it was just really cold! Triple H said it was all one big lie, but what wasn't a lie was the fact that Stacy was just Anna Nicole Smith -- waiting for the billionaire to kick the bucket so she could collect the cash. Triple H told the co-owner that if Vince got in his face again, he would speed up the process.
Vince took Stacy's hand and said the ring was no place for her, considering what was about to happen. Vince said he wouldn't listen to The Game's insults. He said he wasn't an old man, and wouldn't hesitate to slap Triple H in the face and beat the living hell out of him. Vince took his jacket off, but as The Game prepared to fight, Vince walked out of the ring.
Suddenly, a group of superstars -- Test, Christian, Lance Storm, Hardcore Holly and D-Von -- surrounded the ring. One by one they ran in, and as hard as Triple H tried to hold them off, he was outnumbered. The five superstars soon knocked The Game down.
With Triple H down, a smiling Chris Jericho strutted to the ring and grabbed a steel chair. Y2J sat in the chair and talked smack to a defenseless Game, even slapping him. Triple H - who had been busted open in the attack - knocked Jericho down momentarily, but the numbers game was just too much. Jericho cracked The Game over the head with a steel chair, and then told the other five superstars to step back. Y2J then locked Triple H in the Walls of Jericho, as Mr. McMahon started screaming in Triple H's face, calling him a son of a bitch!
Vince said Triple H would go to hell at Judgment Day, as it would be The Game vs. Chris Jericho in Hell in the Cell in 10 days!
The opening match on SmackDown! was a Cruiserweight Title affair, as Tajiri defended against The Hurricane. Tajiri was accompanied to ringside by Torrie Wilson, who was clad in her geisha outfit, and who didn't seem thrilled with her boyfriend. During the bout, Tajiri continued to verbally barrage Torrie. As Tajiri and Hurricane battled in the ring, Torrie climbed onto the announce table, let her hair down, and took off the geisha outfit to reveal a bra and panties! As Tajiri watched, he got counted out, giving the win to Hurricane, and after the bell, Hurricane chokeslammed the Cruiserweight Champion. Tajiri was irate!
Mr. McMahon, Stacy and Jericho talked backstage, and Y2J told Vince that the set-up on Triple H was incredible, but he said it would be nothing compared to Hell in the Cell at Judgment Day. Jericho reminded Vince that the day after Judgment Day one year ago, he had nearly ended Triple H's career, and this time he would get the job done. Vince suggested they start Triple H's career on a downward spiral tonight, putting Triple H in a match. As he questioned who to match The Game against, D-Von screamed, "Testify!" and Vince said his prayers had been answered! Vince said it would be Triple H against D-Von, and if The Game refused the match, it would be grounds for termination!
The Hurricane was in his locker room when he was approached by Al Snow. Al wanted to congratulate him on his match, and asked if he'd seen "Spiderman", saying Spiderman was a real superhero. Hurricane said Spiderman would be no match for the Hurricane. Al said there was some wonderful medication these days that could help Hurricane out. Hurricane noticed that Al was wearing a Spiderman shirt, and offered him a Hurricane shirt instead. As he gave Al the shirt, they noticed a note someone had left for Hurricane in his locker. The note said, "Congratulations, now you're a star, unfortunately for you, I know who you are." Hurricane said it could be the work of Peter Parker, or it could be ... and Hurricane then flew away. Commented Al: "And they thought it was bad when I talked to a head!"
Next up, Test took on Mark Henry. Henry missed a big splash, but Test missed the boot, and amazingly, Henry pressed Test over his head! Henry then hit the splash, but Test got his foot on the rope. Henry went for a superplex, but Test knocked him from the ropes, and hit a top-rope elbow. Test couldn't believe it when Henry kicked out at two. Test again went for the boot, but Henry caught him and locked on a full nelson. But Test escaped with a low blow and hit the big boot for the pinfall win.
Kurt Angle was sitting backstage when an excited Christian came over and asked if Kurt had seen him kick Triple H's ass. Angle said what he saw was Jericho putting on the Walls of Jericho. Christian said he'd softened him up first though. Christian said it was brilliant for Kurt to challenge Edge to a Hair vs. Hair match at Judgment Day, saying Edge had feared being ugly since he was a kid. Kurt told Christian to think about it -- after he defeated Edge at Judgment Day, Edge would be the uglier brother! Christian said "I know!" and then stopped to think about it for a second. Christian said he couldn't wait for Judgment Day to see Edge bald -- he wanted it now, and he started to throw a tantrum. Angle said Christian wouldn't have to wait -- he would show the world tonight just how ugly a bald Edge would be!
Marc Loyd interviewed Billy, Chuck and Rico, talking about their humiliating past few weeks -- first, when the trio were pantsed by Al Snow and Maven, and then when Rico got the Stink Face from Rikishi. Billy asked who the hell Loyd thought he was. Loyd obviously found the footage very funny, and Billy told him to wipe the smile off his face. Billy said Rico had needed 23 facials to get the stink off his face! Chuck calmed Billy down, and said that the two of them and Rico would get their revenge tonight in six-man action. Rico said he was coming out, and coming out only as he could -- in style! Rico said the most stylish thing he owned was a black belt in karate. He said as far as Al Snow, Maven and Rikishi were concerned, tonight they would embarrass them.
Reverend D-Von talked to a man backstage, saying it was time to take it to Triple H. Prior to the bout, D-Von delivered tonight's sermon, and introduced the monster of a man as another of his followers -- Deacon Bautista. Bautista wore a chain around his neck connected to D-Von's collection box, which had been stolen several times in recent weeks. D-Von said it was now time to beat the sin out of Triple H.
A battered and bruised Game made his way to the ring, his head bandaged from the earlier gang attack. D-Von soon threw Triple H to the outside, and as the reverend distracted the ref, Deacon Bautista took it to The Game and tossed him back into the ring. Triple H tried fighting back, but the earlier attack had just taken too much out of him. The Game rolled out of the ring to catch his breath, and when he went to grab a steel chair, Bautista again attacked. Bautista soon distracted the ref, allowing Jericho to run down and hit Triple H in the head with the steel collection box. D-Von then pinned The Game for the win!
Olympic hero Kurt Angle headed to the ring to a chorus of "You suck! You suck!" from the Bridgeport crowd. Kurt said as many of the fans knew, at Judgment Day, he would be facing Edge in a Hair vs. Hair match, with the loser getting his head shaved bald. Kurt said he knew Edge could be a "wisenheimer," but two could play at that game. Kurt asked the production people to show a graphic on the Trons of what Edge looks like now, which they did. Kurt then asked them to throw up a picture of what Edge would look like after Judgment Day -- and a fake picture came up on the Trons of a bald Edge!
Kurt then showed another picture of Edge, and asked them to throw up another picture of what bald Edge would look like -- but instead, a picture of a bald Angle came up on the Trons! Kurt screamed that he knew Edge was behind this, and demanded that he put the picture of bald Edge back on the Trons -- but instead, the graphic of "You suck!" came on the screens! Kurt challenged Edge to come to the ring immediately and face him like a man.
But instead of Edge, out came Undisputed WWE Champion Hollywood Hulk Hogan! Hogan asked Angle if he had a problem with bald people. Hogan said bald people represent some of the greatest champions the industry had ever seen -- including Superstar Billy Graham, Stone Cold Steve Austin and the Hulkster himself! Hogan pointed to his own head, and said Angle was headed that way one way or another, because if Edge didn't get him at Judgment Day, Mother Nature would!
Angle said he hopes Undertaker kicks Hogan's butt at Judgment Day, and said if Taker doesn't take the title from him, Angle would. He also told Hogan that there was only one real American in this company, and it was Kurt Angle! Angle said while Hogan was saying his prayers and taking his vitamins, Angle was training to become the greatest success story in modern athletics. Hogan had had enough -- he attacked Angle, knocking him from the ring with a big boot!
Angle talked trash to Hogan as he walked up the ramp, only to be speared by Edge as he got to the stage!
Jericho talked to Mr. McMahon and Stacy backstage, telling them he'd been having a great night so far. As the three spoke, an irate Angle came in and said he wanted Hogan in a match tonight. He then changed his mind and said he wanted Edge. After changing his mind a few more times, Mr. McMahon calmed him down, and made a tag match for SmackDown! pitting Angle and Jericho against Hogan and Edge!
In six-man action, WWE Tag Team Champions Billy & Chuck teamed with Rico against Al Snow, Maven and Rikishi. The bout was the first for Rico, and the stylist made a very impressive debut, taking it right to the opposition. As the action wore on, Rikishi was about to give Rico a Stink Face until Chuck saved his stylist. Rico then nailed Snow with a spinning heel kick, and Billy nailed the fame-asser on the Snow man to pick up the pinfall win.
Marc Loyd interviewed Randy Orton, talking about the roller-coaster he'd been on the past few weeks, first upsetting Hardcore Holly, and then getting the Alabama Slam on the steel stage, and with Stacy seemingly having a crush on him. Loyd said he admired Orton just for having the guts to show up tonight. Randy said his father had taught him to forget the bumps and bruises, and that when opportunity knocked, you had to answer. As Randy spoke, he was approached by Lance Storm, who said he didn't want to hear all the knowledge Randy had acquired in the business in three weeks. Lance scoffed at the notion that Randy was a "can't-miss prospect," saying that Orton had the business handed to him on a silver platter. Lance said Kurt Angle was right, that he was one of the greatest wrestlers Canada had ever produced, and he was better than just making bets on Mark Henry. He said tonight, he would take it to Orton and prove how good he is.
That match was up next, and Randy was shocked to see that Mr. McMahon had named Hardcore Holly as guest referee for the bout! Holly was clearly biased against the third-generation superstar, and although Orton had the match won on several occasions, Holly would only count to two on pinfall attempts. Storm soon locked Orton in a half Boston Crab, and as Orton reached for the ropes, Holly kicked the ropes away. Orton soon had no choice but to tap out to the maneuver, giving the win to Storm. After the bout, Holly and Storm double-teamed Orton, until Big Valbowski ran down for the save!
Edge went to look for Hogan in the Hulkster's dressing room, but the WWE Champion was nowhere to be found. Edge couldn't resist donning Hogan's bandana and boas and doing an impression of the Hulkster in a mirror! He then turned around to find Hogan staring at him. He handed Hogan the boas, and the Hulkster said it went like this -- and Hogan cut the same promo! Hogan said it was time to kick some butt, brother -- and Edge said that it was so cool that Hulk Hogan called him "brother!"
The main event on SmackDown! was the tag match pitting Kurt Angle and Chris Jericho against Edge and Undisputed WWE Champion Hulk Hogan. Angle was clearly still angry about what Hogan and Edge had done to him earlier in the night, and the Olympic hero took out his aggression on his opponents. Jericho also brutalized Hogan and Edge, obviously looking to send a message to Triple H just 10 days before their Hell in the Cell match at Judgment Day.
Angle and Jericho double-teamed Edge, trying to isolate him from the champion. Finally, Hogan got the tag, and the champion was a house afire. He delivered the big boot to Angle, knocking the Olympian to the outside. Y2J attacked Hogan from behind, but the champion "Hulked up" and took it to Jericho. He hit Y2J with the big boot and legdrop, but Angle pulled the ref out of the ring on the pinfall attempt.
The four men battled it out in the ring, and Edge gave Angle the Edge-ecution. Jericho hit Hogan with a low blow and locked the champion in the Walls of Jericho.
Suddenly, a still-bloody Triple H ran to the ring with a sledgehammer and attacked everything in sight -- Angle, Jericho, Edge, Hogan, and even the referee!
As Triple H stood over the carnage, out to the stage came Mr. McMahon. Vince said if Triple H wanted to hit someone with a sledgehammer, maybe The Game should hit him. He asked Triple H if he had the guts to hit him, because he would give him the opportunity. Vince got into the ring and looked The Game in the face. He said if Triple H had the guts to hit him, it would be the last thing The Game ever did.
Triple H raised the sledgehammer and took a swing at Mr. McMahon, but the owner ducked. Jericho then nailed Triple H across the head with a steel chair and held it overhead in triumph as SmackDown! went off the air.
