Ric Flair Speaks, Rock is War, WWF/UK, §Lam - Ric Flair has broken his silence over the
World Wrestling Federation's acquisition of WCW. The 52 year-old
legend believes WCW will benefit from Federation exposure. "It's a
win-win situation for someone that wants to see wrestling run the right
way. Vince McMahon runs his business like a business... and for
the last ten years we (WCW) have been totally unsuccessful," he told
Pro Wrestling Weekly. "If I told you I didn't want to be on Raw I'd be
telling you a lie. I've had a great career and a lot of fun." When asked
if fans will see him in the WWF anytime soon, Flair joked: "I hope so,
if The Rock wants to be the man we will." On a related note the WWF
released it's annual financial report yesterday. The report revealed
that the Federation paid Time Warner/AOL just $4.3 million for WCW.- With all his Hollywood obligations behind him,
The Rock makes a long-awaited return to Federation TV tonight on
WWF Raw. Although WWF Insider can reveal that Rock won't be joining the
WCW/ECW alliance, expect a huge turn of events. I'll say no more! - Channel 4 in the United Kingdom confirmed
over the weekend that it has pulled the plug on WWF programming.
The announcement merely confirmed the inevitable. Earlier this year,
facing minuscule ratings, the popular UK station which airs - WWF
Heat and pay per view specials - banished the show from its cushy
afternoon time slot to the predawn nether-hours, effectively sealing its
demise. According to a Channel 4 spokesperson the decision to drop
the show was made because of the increasingly violent fighting scenes
and misgivings over its portrayal of women. The station says the
shows will run through to December before disappearing for good. - The SummerSlam pay-per-view is sold out. The highest ticket price was selling at $200 for a ringside view and gate money is expected to be near $1 million. This year's SummerSlam is taking place from the Compaq Center in San Jose, CA. The Rock is heavily promoted on TV and in other local media as one of the main event.
