The
pink panther movies are a series of films who focus on Inspector Clouseau, an
extremily clumsy french police officer, who somehow manages to solve the crimes
in which he is in charge. There are 6 movies, of which 4 are very funny. Those are the ones more focused
on the inspector who is geniusly played by Peter
Sellers.
Sellers, who I think is one of the best actors who ever lived, was fantastic
doing comedy, and this was the role for which he was more known. If you want
to watch any other movie, to see how great he was, you should check Kubrick's
Dr. Strangelove, in which Sellers play 3 different roles with perfection.
But
getting back to the PP movies, they are called this way because in the first
movie, the world's biggest diamond, The Pink Panther, is missing and Clouseau
has to recover it. Even if the diamond only appears in one other movie, the
name remains in the other films, and the cartoon of a pink panther drawn for
the opening credits of the movie (and that reapears in all other movies credits),
got a life and fame of it's own and is today more famous than the movie itself.
In
the first movie, the focus of the story wasn't Clouseau, but as the director
and producer, Blake Edwards, saw that the main attraction of the movie was Sellers'
character he made all the other movies based on him. Inspector Clouseau, is a
very funny man, full of manias, who speaks in a heavy french accent, loves to
dress in disguises, and has many fake names, lives alone, and has loved many
woman, has a chinese housekeeper who likes to attack him when he's unprepared.
Those movies are very funny, and are definately the watch. I made a small
review of each movie, and you can read it clicking on the link below.
