ANOTHER Italian cruiser, bound for Libya, has been torpedoed and probably sent to the bottom, by a British submarine in the Central Mediterranean. The Italian cruiser, announces the Admiralty, was one of three, heavily screened by destroyers, which were seen moving at high speed. Three hits with torpedoes were scored on the enemy. Failing visibility and a rough sea made accurate observation difficult, but it is considered that one of the cruisers probably sank, as a very loud explosion was heard after the attack. Chasing Rommel A British cruiser has heavily shelled Derna in a daring surprise attack, reports Associated Press, severely damaging shipping and harbour installations. The chase of Rommel's forces in Libya continues, though there is no sign of a rout. Imperial forces have now swept by Gazala, 40 miles west of Tobruk. Nearly 1,000 prisoners were taken at Gazala and farther west. A violent bombing attack was being carried out on our position when I first chatted with Major General Ritchie, new 44-year-old commander of Britain's Eight Army, cables Kenneth Downs, British United Press Special Correspondent. Our Men Unequalled "I have never seen the equal of our men as fighters," he told me. "Many have had their tanks shot from under them, only to take new ones and go back into action. After his capture the German general, von Ravenstein, said he had never come up against such fighting," added General Ritchie.
