A Tropical Cyclone Alert is now in effect and the Standby Signal, No.
1 was issued at 2:15 p.m.
This means that a tropical cyclone now centred within about 800
kilometres of Hong Kong may affect us.

At 2 p.m., Typhoon Conson was centred about 640 kilometres
east-southeast of Hong Kong (near 19.5 degrees north 119.6 degrees
east) and is forecast to move north at about 15 kilometres per hour
across the northeastern part of the South China Sea.

Severe Tropical Storm Conson near Luzon intensified into a typhoon
this afternoon. It has been moving northwards in the past 24
hours, edging closer to the south China coast. The Observatory
will closely monitor its movement.

Since Conson is still some distance from Hong Kong at present, no
strong winds are expected to affect Hong Kong for the rest of
today.
