Download WXMLC v0.94

12/23/03: I suspect my program is being used by some folks for transferring settings and especially scripts from the Wizard into Stormfront.  eScape and Stormfront XML are just about the same as far as I know.  If anyone is using it for this purpose, please e-mail me and share any thoughts you might have about how it's working and how it might be improved.

7/11/02: If you find that you can't download the program due to this site having reached its daily download capacity limit, please try again later.  I am looking into where else I can post the program so this problem doesn't happen.

6/19/02: New version posted today (see version notes)

6/7/02: ALERT:  Importing a large amount of script data (over one megabyte) into a single character will cause eScape to crash and corrupt the character's settings, which prevents you from playing with that character via eScape until Simu fixes him/her (it is still possible to play via the Wizard if this happens).  Please exercise caution if you want to import a lot of scripts into one character.

6/7/02: I have been working on the program quite a bit lately and I have fixed a few bugs, so please check back often for updates.

The Wizard-XML Converter (or WXMLC) is a program I wrote to convert settings from The Wizard into XML files that can be imported for use in eScape, Simutronics' new front-end.  I rely heavily on the Wizard's colored highlights to organize the game screen when I play DragonRealms, and I found myself reluctant to use eScape without my highlights, which I have compiled steadily since 1997.   Although there are a few other converter utilities out there, I found that each one contained conversion errors of one type or another, and no one utility could transfer the entire range of information that I wanted to migrate from the Wizard to the new front end.  So I decided to write my own converter, partially to address this need, and partially to teach myself how to program.  WXMLC was written over approximately six months, while I taught myself Visual Basic, in my spare time.

The Converter is the first Windows program I have ever written (which is mostly why it took so long to write), but I have been very careful to weed out bugs and I have tried my best to balance simplicity and ease-of-use with flexibility and completeness.  It is still a work in progress, but it has reached a stage where I think it is almost completely done and hopefully its benefits outnumber its shortcomings.  The one main thing I am still working on is macro conversion, which should be completed sometime... soon.  OK, seriously, what that means is, "as soon as I can scrape together enough time to work on it".

To install the Converter, download the zip file, extract, and run setup.exe.

I hope you find my little program useful.  Please let me know what you think!
