5199 Hits the Rails Again
Celebrations were in hand this weekend (17/18 May 2003) on the
Llangollen Railway following the complete restoration of Swindon-built
2-6-2T 5101 class steam locomotive no. 5199.
Before invited guests, 5199 again took to the rails. The project has
taken more than ten years and started on the Gloucestershire &
Warwickshire Railway before the engine was moved to Llangollen.
Years of fund-raising and a sales carriage at Carrog Station have now
paid off as the engine was given a new boiler earlier this year. The
sales carriage, which specialises in largely second hand items, railway
magazines and memorabilia, will continue for the season to help repay
the final debts which mounted during the boiler fitting.
