95.1/WXRB
Meet WXRB-FM's own resident radio-junkie,
 General Manager/Chief Engineer Peter Q. George (K1XRB)
"To me, WXRB-FM is a labor of love AND is a result of an over 40+ year love affair with radio. Ever since the age of 6, I always wanted to own and operate my own full-fledged FM radio station. This was at a time where FM radio was considered to be the "poor red-haired stepchild" of radio. My love for FM radio started in 1966 when I accidentally hit the "band selector" switch of my oldest brother's GE AM/FM portable. Lo and behold, I found the legendary WRKO-FM with its' NOW famous "ARKO-matic" format of currents and oldies in an automated, no cluttered presentation, hosted by "ARKO-MATIC, the shy but friendly robot!". I never forgot the sound of "ARKO". In fact, you just might hear his direct decendant "ARKO II" on WXRB-FM from time to time right here in FULL STEREO on 95.1 FM!
I am very proud of 95.1 FM. In addition to our continuous original rock & roll programming, we also bring you Sunday night Jean Shepherd broadcasts , every Sunday night at 11! We intend to entertain you, while at the same time we plan to provide you with some interesting spoken word programs as well. We also bring you exciting Nichols College sports action, produced and directed by students of the college.
The center piece of WXRB-FM is the "Solid Gold in Stereo!" format. While most all other "oldies" stations play a selection of about 300 (or so) time tested tunes from 1964+, THIS station will never forget the music that made the memories PRIOR to 1964. After all, rock & roll DID NOT begin with "John, Paul, George and Ringo" (though we DO play THOSE tunes). Rock & roll began around 1954 and still is very much alive today some 50+ years later. I grew up listening to some great rock and roll radio stations in the 1960's and 70's like WABC "Musicradio77", WLS "The BIG 89!", WKBW "KB/1520", WRKO AM and FM, WMEX, CKLW "The BIG 8!" and many more. My love affair with radio started thanks to the great jocks on those great radio stations like "Cousin Brucie" Morrow & Dan Ingram on WABC, Larry Lujack on WLS, Arnie "Woo-Woo" Ginsburg on WMEX, Dale Dorman on WRKO and so many more, too numerous to mention. And of course, I won't forget the late, the great Robert "Wolfman Jack" Smith. WXRB-FM is a living tribute to vintage oldies stations of the past such as the original WROR (98.5) and the grand-daddy of them all... WCBS-FM "The Golden 101" in New York.
WXRB-FM showcases Rock & Roll's FIRST 25 years, to preserve its' place in mainstream America and to bring these special songs to a new generation of listeners, to young and old alike. We're a totally NON-COMMERCIAL EDUCATIONAL FM station, dedicated to keeping this special music alive and available for everyone to enjoy..
We hope you're enjoying the sound of Dudley/Webster's 95.1/WXRB.... YOUR home for "Solid Gold in Stereo!!".
Feel free to write or call us at anytime. We wish to thank the wonderful people of Nichols College and WNRC-LP/97.5 FM in Dudley, Massachusetts in putting their trust in us in allowing WXRB-FM to become a reality and allowing this station become truly a "dream come true". We'll be forever grateful!"
Thank you!! Peter Q. George (K1XRB) General Manager/Chief Engineer WXRB-FM/Dudley, Massachusetts
