A Questionaire from Armagh. When do you start working? Pref in mornings if i have time from work...any snatched moment when in mood...or about 12 years ago. what problems do you encouter? lack of 'muse', and once attained that, conflicts in how to approach painting, an old familiar style, or strive to attain a tangent to that direction? I always try and paint the best i can, tho oft a throwaway 'thumbnail' oil sketch with the palletts remainder carries more enjoyment and satisfaction than a more considered piece. How do you clarify and negotiate a brief? Not applicable...i dont work to other's briefs. How do you approach,(attitude) to their brief? N/A How do they respond to the client? N/A - is this a business or art course yer on? What factors are considered when costing your output? My personal liking of the piece vs. my personal liking of the buyer. Dies space and scale of work effect your production? Obviously...while a small painting may carry more details, a larger one will usually take longer...lino cuts can be done very swiftly Where do you get your resources? Which resources? The main resources are ideas culled from a happenstance serendipity of memory, coincidence, or just plain interest in the occurence outside the window. Other resources i find 'art' shops supply very well, or skips. Are their constraints with legislation? I cannot show painting of cock nor cunt in a forthcoming church exhib. (nor pagan symbols neither) What are the high points of your day? waking up unhungover, undepressed, full of vim, vigour & vivaciousness, enjoying all i have around me in their simple natures. Making time go quickly to a warm end. how do you liaise with clients / constomers / public? We drink wine. They ask about a painting. I ask too low a price. Too late. I get too low an amount. How do you respond to complaints? They bought it as seen. They can do what they like with it now. How do you modify and develop initial ideas to produce a final outcome? Osmosis. (influences) Gaugin, Dix, Beckmann (tho only latterly, influenced by him before i seen him), Gogh, Posada, Masereel. Who is the chosen market for your work? Like women, they choose me. How viable is your product? It is viable as a percieved good or bad picture on canvas. If it is percieved as bad, it's probably one of the ones i like the most. "Oh when, Oh when, will you ever paint a nice picture?" Says my mum.
