STAR TREK X

The Facts
During the release of Star Trek: Insurrection, Rick Berman and a top-level Paramount executive met with Brannon Braga to discuss the next film (this was a preliminary discussion just to give paramount some info on what they have had planed). This confirms that Paramount does want to make another Star Trek film. According to reliable sources, they are aiming at a 2001 release. Rick Berman also said in an interview recently that he would like to see DS9 characters involved in the last of the TNG films. However, to what degree of actuality Mr. Berman intended his comment is unknown. Brent Spiner has voiced his desire to see his character killed off or to leave the cast in the next film. His belief is that his aging cannot be true to the character of Data.

This film will be focused more in space then the last two, Berman said he wanted a more "Futuristic look that involved lots of space travel and new Starfleet technologies". Patrick Stewart will definitely be in the next movie, possibly as a producer as well. William Shatner has requested that he be in Star Trek 10! Unfortunately, it would be an incredibly hard write-in. (Perhaps a cameo as someone other than Kirk?). Durring Insurrection, Patrick Stewart and Brent Spiner discussed a possible plot for Star Trek 10, involving the death of Data and the return of Lore. Weather the executives will consiter this plot is unknown, but it was discussed. Furthermore, Star Trek 10 has been pushed up to a Fall 2000 release date. (But can be pushed back again according to when they actually start production).

Confirmed Information
• Patrick Stewart will be in the film, contrary to his three film contract and rumors saying he wont be.
Stewart stated this on "The Late Show with David Letterman" 12/07/98
• Data will die or leave in this film.
Spiner stated this in a Interview at the release of Insurrection 12/10/98

The Rumors
A bullet () indicates the level of "truth" the rumor has. The more bullets, the greater the possibility of it being FACT. These are rumors I have picked up around the internet and magazines. Please do not take these as facts. I consider these inaccurate until I put them in the FACTS section. If one of them actually makes it into the FACT section (above) then it means I personally have confirmed that it is an actual fact.

-Worf will be in the movie, but not as a Starfleet officer. •
(Hard to believe. I think we have seen the last of Worf for awhile.)
-A strong b-story based on Geordi's and Data's friendship. •••••
(This is highly probable, seeing that the end of the movie we will see the last of Data.)
-Star Trek 10 will be darker film such as Star Trek 2 and 8. •••••
(This is probably a fact, seeing that Brent will probally not be returning for Star Trek XI)
-A major star will be in the next film. •••••
(Berman said in an interview that they are trying to get some "big names" in the film)
-The movie will be about the Dominion War.
(Deep Space Nine ended the war with the Series Finale)
-The movie will feature a Borg/Federation alliance.
(extremely unlikely, the Borg do not ally with other species)
-A strong plot involving Spock and the Romulans. •••
(this is possible, there is still much unknown about the Romulans)
-Riker gets his own command.•
    (We've all heard this before)
-A Deep Space Nine / Voyager movie. While discussing Star Trek X, Brent Spiner let slip that a movie version of one of the "currently running Trek shows" is likely to happen.
(I'm sure that this wouldn't mean Star Trek 10, but something more like Star Trek 12 would be more believable, also, I'm not sure about how much the actors/actresses of Star Trek know about the future of the franchise)
-A computer generated Data will be used. ••
(The technology today lets filmmakers create photorealistic characters. (as seen on the new Star Wars movie). According to a Paramount employee news letter, a CG Data can be created, or, has been created for use in movies after Star Trek 10. Unfortunately, this would be at 2x the cost of a normal actor to use. But with new technologies popping up all over the place, it can get cheaper and cheaper to create an audience-fooling CG actor.)
