Wyoming has fine gold spread over most of the state. With two main gold producing areas and a bunch of minor ones. The two gold producing areas are south pass and douglas creek. South pass is located in fremont county at the foot of the wind river mountains, situated on the oregon and mormon trails. The douglas creek area is located near larmie wyoming by the colorado wyoming boarder. It is known for it's rare native platinum placers.

 Only alaska can compare to the vast and wildness of wyoming. In fact wyoming has FEWER PEOPLE per sq. mile than alaska. It is the least populated state in the union. What does this mean to the gold prospector? Due to the extreme wildness and frontier type landscape most
gold producing areas have only seen very minor activities. Most of wyoming has never been prospected. Unlike boarding states (idaho, montana ,colorado ,utah and the dakotas) which have has their rich gold producing areas dug for years by millions, most of wyoming has not been touched but by a wayward shovel. I believe wyoming (and maybe parts of alaska) are some of the few places where a gold prospector could discover an unknown (or forgotten) gold deposit.

Here is a true story to prove my point. A fellow I know quite well was hunting in a place (no I'm not telling where) that is not known for gold. After harvesting (referred to as "killing" in wyoming) his elk he took it home and started to skin it out when something shiny caught his eye. He looked between the hooves of the elk and there was a gold nugget. I know this to be true as he is not a prospector nor a spinner of tails and have seen the nugget with my own eyes. the nugget is thick and chunky i'd guess it's weight at about 2 to 4 grams. so somewhere (on a game trail in the mountains) gold nuggets are lying on or near the surface waiting for me to find them ;)

And that my fellow prospectors I believe to be true in more places than one in wyoming.
