In Defense Of Anarchist Lawyers We need lawyers as well. Not just civil rights, environmental, and labor law, but every kind of law that's out there right now. I know, I don't like them either. But imagine for a moment that we had trained knowledgeable lawyers on our side. It sounds so contradictory, but bear with me. Some of the work we do involves lawyers. Not just because of the militant direct action which carries a risk of arrest, but also because in damn near anything we do, the state will try and stop us. Look at Food Not Bombs, for example. If a chapter of FnB was doing good work, they started getting arrested. We need lawyers who understand labor law for union organizing campaigns; real estate lawyers for opening infoshops and workplaces, tenants unions, and squats; I'm sure you can think of more examples. I probably sound crazy to many of you, but I'm sure at least a few of you are nodding your heads. Think about it for a bit. |
