The Hemingway Solution

(From left to right: George, Dave, Pete, and Ryan)

The Hemingway Solution’s (THS) Dave Guthrie (vocals/guitar) and George Niculescu (guitar/vocals) met in 1998 as members of the band “Rubber Souls”.  Upon discovering a mutual direction in life and appreciation for music, the two friends broke away from the band in March 2003 to pursue the concept of The Hemingway Solution, after a dedicated 5 years of playing at various live shows, festivals, concerts and in the recording studio.  The band was formed with the addition of drummer, Pete Niculescu, brother to George, and a month later, in April 2003, the 7 track “Basement EP” was released.  After almost a year of playing with a variety of different bassists, THS was finally complete with the addition of bassist Ryan Tang (also from Rubber Souls) in January 2004.

“The way I think about it is, our band is about getting away from all your distractions, all the people you hate ,all those harsh words,” says drummer Pete Niculescu.    With influences ranging from The Beatles, Guns N Roses, Smashing Pumpkins, Our Lady Peace, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Radiohead, and The Red Hot Chili Peppers; their music can be classified as “melodic rock with an attitude and a shot of tequila”, as it ranges from a hard to soft sound, and appeals to a wide audience.  The songs, generally written by Dave and George, are about life experiences, or, according to George, “whatever bugs me enough to want to pick up a guitar.”

Seeing the band live, one can expect a group of honest musicians working off pure, raw  energy, and passion for the music,  “There’s plenty of bands like us out there, but we don’t think we’re God’s gift to music, nor do we have attitude,” says Ryan Tang, bassist.  “From a live show, you can expect unbridled enthusiasm, and 4 guys who love to play music together and perform,” states Dave Guthrie, vocalist/guitarist.  For show dates, go to their website at http://www.thehemingwaysolution.com.

Though currently playing shows, THS also recently completed the recording of their 3-track demo at Arnyard Studios (Our Lady Peace, Simple Plan, Finger Eleven) in Toronto for the upcoming release in late-2004.  The new tunes capture the dynamic, edgy sound that is the trademark of their live shows.  For a copy of the demo, contact their manager, Genvieve Pagulayan at the address provided on the Contacts Page.
