Question & Answers
What would you say your band is about?
It's so hard
to answer this questions without being cliché...friendship, music, fun...all
that shit just like everyone else I suppose.
But if I had to choose, I think it'd
music because we'd be friends regardless of whether we're all in the same band.
From past experience, we've learned that if you aren't having fun and enjoying
the music first, things rapidly begin to fall apart. Everyone will tell
you that a band should be treated like a business, and that is true to a certain
extent, but if you take that ideology too far and allow the music to get lost,
then you are just McDonalds with significantly inferior meat.
What is the origin of your band's name?
Dave can
explain this best.
What inspired you to form your band?
From my
perspective, things just fell into place. My former bass teacher used to
play in a band with Dave and George and I joined that band when he left. We've
been together since that day...how perfect.
What are your main influences for music?
Beatles, Red
Hot Chili Peppers, U2, Bob Marley, Radiohead, Pink Floyd, Oasis.
How would you describe your sound?
Rock.
What qualities would you say distinguishes your band from
the rest of the Indie rock scene here in Toronto?
In reality,
there are, and have always been countless bands writing and playing, trying to
get their music heard. We are really no different. Our only difference is
our music, which is uniquely ours.
What are your songs about? Where do you get the inspiration for them?
Songs can be
about any life experience, or they can really have no meaning. I'd say that
the majority of our songs are based on a life experience of the writer.
How do your songs come together? Who is the songwriter of the group?
Dave and
George write the majority of the songs. Usually, they'll come to the band
with a mostly finished song written on acoustic. We then listen to them
play and then after understanding the song, we start jamming on it. From
this point, parts are refined constantly and the song is rearranged until we
agree that it's in its best form.
Who writes the lyrics?
The
songwriter: Dave or George.
What should the audience expect when they see the band live?
Good music
minus the pretense.
What's the hottest song you perform live? Why?
My favorite
song to perform live is cellophane. It has great lyrics and builds nicely
into the chorus which is seriously heavy.
If you could play with any musical artist, alive or dead, who would it be?
The Beatles
of course.
Who is your favorite local Indie band? Why?
I guess
Pilate, though they're not Indie anymore.
What do you do outside of the band?
Cook, chill
with friends, listen to music, watch movies.
Where can we see you perform next?
All our
shows are on our website www.thehemingwaysolution.com
check out the Air Canada one, it'll be awesome (yes that is a lie).
Where do you see the band 5 years from now?
Wherever life leads us.
